What about the sales of Modern Warfare 2 surpassing all other other forms of media to become "the biggest entertainment launch in history?"

Sales don't mean anything.
In America it does. When you're talking about a video game having a bigger opening sales week than the movie "Titanic" or one of the Harry Potter books.. it says a lot about the gaming industry. It says that "Yes. Video games are becoming just as popular as reading books and watching movies." It marks a shift in culture

Need further proof? Look at how big video games and virtual apps are getting on the iPhone now. We are becoming more and more tied down to technology and gaming is right there at the forefront. It's a very interesting time
Notice you keep saying "are becoming', which proves my point. We are not there yet. And someone mentioned that there isn't a place to put his favorite football player on facebook even though football is mainstream. I should point out that sports is sports. It doesn't fit in with entertainment categories like tv, movies, music, books, etc. Sports is generally considered an activity whether it is playing sports or attending a sporting event. Now if you just WATCH sports, you could put that under the tv section. My point is that sports falls under other categories, but gaming is its own entertainment medium and it SHOULD be listed along with other entertainment categories on facebook, but apparently it is not considered important enough

I never once said they were niche. However, I do believe they are not as important a part of our culture yet as the other entertainment mediums. Not yet anyway, course I speak as an american. It's a totally different story in Japan I suppose

Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it's only just recently that the industry had finally managed to start really making an impact on people outside of the core market with the Wii and apparently people like Roger Ebert still don't consider games as art. And I know he's not the only one that feels that way. And I still often see bad action movies criticized by critics as being "like a video game", which shows a certain lack of respect towards the gaming industry

Gaming is NOT mainstream yet, getting there though, gradually. It's more popular than ever and certainly not niche anymore, but it simply isn't as deeply interwoven into our culture and society as other entertainment mediums and I think anyone who disagrees is in the denial, but that's just my opinion

And since everyone wants to make jokes about me mentioning facebook

Let's try something else. How bout tv? How many movie channels and music channels are there on tv with a good cable package? Now tell me how many video game channels you can think of beside G4(which is a joke).

You make no sense. G4 talks about games (sometimes), it doesn't "play" them the way that a movie channel or music channel plays music. How many movie/music channels spend much time discussing movies/music? Not many...

Well there are quite a few channels that talk about music. Fuse, VH1, the mtv channels, etc. Movies pop up everywhere, you hear about them on news channels, they talk about them on the tv guide channel, FX channel has that movies on DVD thing, there's another channel with the inside the actor's studio thing and there are tons of channels that play movies despite not being movie channels. Video games don't get that kind of tv coverage or attention. The pathetic G4 is pretty much all there is.

With conventions like E3, Evo tournaments, Dance Dance Revolution tournaments, etc. there's plenty of stuff to cover in the gaming world. Why don't we have channels showing us documentaries about certain series or development teams? Why don't people in the industry get lots of tv interview time like musicians and actors do and even some directors do?

Even when I look at something like the local Tampa Bay Times paper. Every day there's talk about some new movies or music. Rarely is there an article in there about games, and when there is it's usually about something controversial like Call of Duty's airplane terrorsit level. If I go to a news website like usatoday, tons of articles about what some dumb tv/movie celebrity is doing or some music artist. Articles about the latest movies, tv shows. How much do you see about gaming though?

There's so many examples that show that we're still very much behind other entertainment mediums with regards to how big a part of our culture gaming is
