How the hell do I burn an SFV file?

Post by Droid party »

I've used the search section in the tech help forum and tried google to no avail.

Basically I've downloaded a couple of disc images and have no clue at all on what to use to burn them. The image is broken up into smaller files normally with names such as, 001 file, 002 file, 003 file ( you get the idea ) all the way to 076 file on one image and an extra file type of SFV.

Please help if you can.

You don't need the SFV, it's just to check for corruption.

Open 00 or 01 in Winrar and extract the file, which should be a CD image file.
Then you can delete all the files except the image(s) and burn those

Open .001 with winrar. SFV is a file validation log like PAR files. Do a google search for SFV utilities, or just search for QuickPAR which is what I use. Then run that SFV to verify that the rar files are in good working order. This is just optional however. Torrents are generally well protected from errors during sharing, but some form of downloading are not so secure.

To qualify Mozgus's post, when you use a tool to process the SFV file it checks all the files in the archive/download/whatever against a value in the SFV file. The results of that will tell you if any of the files are likely to have become corrupted during the download. The check is relatively quick.

Naturally, this method isn't as detailed or reliable as an MD5 hash or anything, but it works for what it needs to do and is a heckuva lot less complicated and time consuming.
