This seems to vary a lot from country to country. In the US, I think one usually does not have to be a Muslim to enter. Apparently, this is not true in many other countries.Xonticus wrote:Also, mosques provide religious sanctuary to nearly all religious beliefs, so they are open to everybody.

I'd rather have neither.
Re: Mosques
As an atheist I'd prefer churches, mosques, synogogues, temples and whatever the hell else just get done away with. Pray in your basement.
But that's not freedom, so I deal with it.
At the same time there are a lot of places in the world where muslims have taken the concept of "tolerance" to the extreme, and I would hate to see that happen here. The answer is for everyone to become atheist so that all these religious people look nutso. As it stands, it's just a bunch of misguided redneck christians vs a bunch of misguided whatever muslims arguing over who has the right to act crazy in public.
Perhaps it's just based on what the news reports, but I'm not the only one who feels that there aren't a whole lot of muslims speaking out against terrorist attacks done in the name of their religion. I would be really happy if someone could point me to some information showing that a large percentage of muslims or muslim leaders are speaking out against attacks going on across the world. I think there is a feeling that while most muslims aren't necessarily violent, they are ok with what is being done. They just don't vocally support it.

I want to live next to MegaloSnoDopolis.
It's a place I just made up that has huge living dinosaurs made out of ice cream, and they want you to eat the ice cream and ride on their backs!

As a self healer, I wish all doctors, chiropractors, psychologists and whoever the hell else would only perform their practice in their basements.

So, like, if you get cancer you are just going to take some herbs or something?

You're not one for sarcasm, are you, Octopod?Octopod wrote:So, like, if you get cancer you are just going to take some herbs or something?
I generally stay out of religious arguments, as I know it always comes down to the argument of "Who has it right?", something that as Humans, we cannot solve definitively. I am proud to live in a country where religious freedom is one of the foremost rights that a citizen is entitled to. I am a Christian, but I still believe that people, no matter what their faith, should be allowed to worship freely, as long as it does not come into conflict with other, unrelated laws. [The only reason I added that part, in case somebody responds with a bogus hypothetical situation like "wheat if somebody's religion involved rape/murder/etc.?, otherwise, the statement is implied]. That is why I get angry when people try to take away the right of freedom of religion, or at least strongly discourage it; people should be allowed to worship in community, not just alone in their homes.
