Shadowrun (Gen) VS Shadowrun (SNES)

Post by dissevered »

Played Genesis version and loved it. Played the SNES for a minute and couldn't get into it because it wasnt the Gen version.

Is it worth a 2nd look? How does the game compare to the Genesis version?

Genesis > SNES

I have a hard time thinking people who prefer the SNES version aren't lying or on drugs.

whats wrong with the snes version? i felt it was a fun game. why limit yourselves to just one good game when you can play both? i mean honestly i haven't tried the gen version, but i doubt that would stop me from enjoying the snes version. if you run into these issues then stop thinking of the game as the same game and just play the game. just running to a game and expecting it to be the same ruins a lot. i ran into the same problem with chrono cross, it's nothing like Trigger, but once i got over that i found a great game that had more to do with trigger than i expected.

I haven't played either version yet, but I'm planning to get Shadowrun soon.

Experience tells me that the graphics on the Genesis tend to be better, but the sound suffers. I'm leaning towards the Genesis version of Shadowrun, just because I'm collecting Sega right now.

Can you be more specific about what makes the Genesis version better?

I haven't played the SNES version but I have the Gen version. Anyone else get all engulfed into the atmosphere and style of the game only to get completely bored after 2 hours of doing the same side quests over and over?

Well it was a couple of things. Mainly though when I first turned it on I just didn't enjoy the way the game was setup or how it played. It didn't feel as smooth and as well done as the Gen version. Probably just a preference thing.

I am actually pretty picky with my games. I am probably not what you consider a die hard gamer. Unless a game is worthy of my own 8-10/10 rating, I usually don't bother. So, sometimes I turn one on and if I feel its crappy right off the bat, I won't give it a chance. If it gets enough thumbs up here though, I will give it an honest try.

BTW, those of you who have not played the GEN version should. If I had to vote for a game to make a comeback into today's consoles it would be that one. When some one mentions Genesis, the first game that comes to mind is Shadowrun.

That is the only thing that keeps me from giving the game a 10/10. I hate grind, and if you want the top gear and upgrades in this game, you have to grind like crazy. You can do it the fun way and skip around to the different shadow runs, but the time consuming ones don't pay enough... matrix runs x1000 for the easy money... lol

Out of all versions, the Sega CD Shadowrun game is supposedly the best, though it never saw release outside of Japan.
