Last I offer I heard on it was 10k for the setup, no response from NEC, this was several years ago. Most of HiTen Bomberman was repurposed into Saturn Bomberman. So we have the game, just not in highdef with the neat multitap.

The summer carnivals are a really neat piece of gaming history. I was going to an article for Racket about it but kept falling flat. I do want the PCFX HD bomberman though:

Id settle for one of the multitaps though
You should write the article dude.

Are you talking about the Sega Saturn Bomberman multitaps? They look pretty cool. :D

There is also a pretty cool SNES one too.

Or did they make a PCE one?

I think he was referring to the Bomberman heads attached to the controllers in the video, though they each have a cord hanging out of them, which presumably means they just distinguish the controllers (each head is a different color).

I believe the original setup was two PC Engines hooked up to a PC. The PC Engines merely acted as controller ports.

The Saturn Bomberman wasn't a direct port, either. The Hi-Ten Bomberman (there were two versions - one in '93, Hi-Ten Bomberman, and in '94, Hi-Ten KaraBom) had multiple ten player stages, where as Saturn Bomberman only has one, and in fact the Hi-Ten version looks a lot sharper. The Hi-Ten version is in all likelihood the better ten player game.

Also, it was slated for PC-FX, but it was never made for the system. It could have been the Iron Man prototype for the PC-FX, perhaps, but it definitely wasn't PC-FX.

As usual Crux comes in an showcases an expert level of knowledge of somewhat obscure gaming history. I was referring to the bomberman heads in the video (shown at 18 seconds). I mistakenly thought they were a multitap instead of just identifiers for the players. However I was under the impression it was to PC Engines hooked up to a modified PCFX. And had this been released for the PCFX I would own more than one, just saying.

Octopod, Ill try to find that article, I am sure it is in one of the "On Hold" folders on the home pc. If I am working on an article, or story, and hit a stopping point. I just drop the document into an On Hold folder and come back to it later. Some of my best articles have come from that folder - Battle Tetris for example.

I am disappointed that no one has made a Bomberman like game that is 10 player. I mean there was an OSS Bomberman clone that played ok but had no frills. I would imagine that it wouldnt be too hard to a pc version that can support 10-20 players.

My excitement had to bump this thread because my US NES Recca Summer Carnival 92' Repro just came in the mail today! Unwrapping this beaut brought back so much nostalgia of my 8-bit childhood. The detail that went into this reproduction is just astonishing - right down to the Styrofoam and English-translated manual. I urge the NES and shmup fans to hit up battlesmurfdx ([email protected]) and buy this before they disappear!
