I need to get a new tv stand for my room - my current one it OK, but I dont like how it attracts dust like mad (all that tempered glass and metal I guess), and how the completely open back exposes all my ugly wires (I try to organize and tie them up well, but theres only so much you can do with so many components hooked up).
I'm wondering if anyone could recommend a tv stand that...
a) has room for my 7 consoles, my xrgb and scart switch (My tv is wall mounted, so I can use the top of the tv stand for consoles if need be)
b) probably wood or something else that doesn't get dusty as hell after a week (or at least hides it well)
c) fully enclosed (well, I guess front doors are optional)
d) around $100 at most?
I don't live anywhere near an ikea, so unless they have good shipping options thats kinda out =/
Recommended TV stands / console shelving?
Re: Recommended TV stands / console shelving?
I do the couch potato approach, literally. Large coffee table with consoles all lined up. Behemoth Atari 5200 on side table by couch. All within reach of couch. Even the Video Switch boxes are mounted under the coffee table. Long patch cables for Composite, S-Video and Component under carpet back to HD.
But if you prefer everything under the TV, Goodwill a great inexpensive source for wall units.

I bought this unit from IKEA, nice and cheap and does the job, and well.

Re: Recommended TV stands / console shelving?
Hi there,
This is the tv bench/stand I bought about a month ago. The front is open - I previously had a different tv bench with glass doors, but that just created an extra step between me and playing the games so I don't miss them.
IKEA "Mosjo":

It suited my needs perfectly, because it sits in front of my tv but isn't so high that it interferes with my screen. Has 3 surfaces for placing systems, etc on. My oversized DVD player, cable box, and a/v switcher are on the bottom. Middle shelf currently has a playstation, and room for 2 more consoles. Top of the unit fits my Dreamcast, N64, Genesis, and SNES. Has enough depth that I'm able to put the system on it, and roll up two controllers in front of their respective systems. You can't see it in the stock Mosjo picture, but the middle shelf does in fact have a hole in the back for cables to go out. I did have to take a hacksaw to the bottom cable hole to enlarge it to fit all the cables going to my switcher.
I'm not sure if it fits your needs exactly, but for anyone looking for a tv bench from IKEA, I would say that I am very happy with this one. Great price of $60 CDN, and the colour matches my tv and IKEA Billy bookshelves.

I have all my consoles to the side of my tv on a "build it yourself" shelving thing from lowes. You just buy the individual shelves and different sized pipes and you can make it as tall as you want. I'm planning to buy a backboard to hide the wires.

You need to swap the PS2 and the Genny around.

Dude that looks great! Could you possibly put up a link to it on their website, assuming it's there? And do you know if that'd be strong enough to safely hold a TV? That seems like a perfect solution to TV stand/shelving and such. Hooray for modular designs!Jrecee wrote:I have all my consoles to the side of my tv on a "build it yourself" shelving thing from lowes. My housemates and I got this from a friend so I don't know where it is from, but this entertainment center works really well for us.
