Good time to buy a DS ?

I have been wanting a Nintendo DS for awhile now, is this the best time to buy one or should I wait for the 3DS to be released and pick up a DS when there cheaper. Also witch is the best version to get I was thinking of being cheap getting the fat one but I guess that's a bad idea.

I could see that after the 3DS comes out that prices on original DSes and DSis dropping steadily in price due to backwards compatibility and people trading in their old ones for the new 3DS. The only one that I would imagine would keep their prices high would be the DSi XL it will probably drop in price, but it would probably remain the highest priced DS variant, akin to the Game Boy Micro that came out around the same time as the original DS.

As for when to get it, that's totally up to you. There are some fantastic DS games available and you could have a blast playing them now. But if you really wanna save some money then I would wait a year. As for what DS to get, I would probably get a Lite because there isn't that much to the DSi, and if you care about GBA compatibility than that is an issue too.

Obviously we can't guess the future, but with the 3DS and backwards compatibility, I presume a lot of people will sell their DSs when they acquire their 3DS. After launch of the 3DS it is very, very likely that DSs will lose a bit of value on the secondary market.

I think the DS lite offers enough advantages over the fat to merit a bit more money. If you should go a bit further and go for a DSi XL or not depends on what you will be doing (obviously the DS lite has a GBA slot, for example).

If I didn't already own an original DS phat, I'd wait for the 3DS to come out and just get that, seeing it will play DS, DSi & 3DS. Or if money is the issue, still wait for it to come out and find a cheap used DS. I wouldn't buy a new DS right now though. This is the worst time to buy one.

I'd say start collecting ds games, so by the time the 3rd comes out, you'll have something to play.

with no must-have DSi-Ware games, I say if you have the money to spend now (DS lite - USD $130) and later (3DS - USD $200?), definitely go with the DS lite now and ignore the DSi and DSi XL.

There are plenty of good games on the DS, and if you do have the GBA games than you may want to have the DS lite.
