i picked the donation but only because i know i'm too lazy to actually donate to a charity on my own so it's up to large companies to do it for me.

What I'll end up doing is when we have knit a longs that support charity, say something like "Our company fully endorses your effort in knitting baby caps for premature babies. In fact, we'll be running a 10% discount on all yarns to help blah blah, etc....."

I read a page and a half of responses, then decided I'd better vote before I get too many ideas.
I voted 25% off because I can choose my own charity and then that money hopefully only loses value to administrative fees once when it get to the charity I sent it to directly. If I give the money to one organization who then gives it to another, then that's several more people that are likely to be paid for their time while diminishing the amount that gets passed on. Hopefully the act of bringing up the charity and providing links to it will help push people to actually do it.

I was thinking it would be cool to offer a discount to the people who donate to charity. Have a donation option and then offer a certain % discount if people use it. This way it isn't built into the price and it feels more personal while offering the same thing.
"Would you like to donate $5 to the March of Dimes (100% of your donation goes directly to the charity) and receive a 10% discount on today's purchase?"
Why yes, yes I would.
