Capcom Vs Namco - A Reality..??

If you haven't already read the article over at 1Up, ( http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3180463 ) it seems very feasible that fighting game powerhouses Capcom and Namco may join fists to create the next entry in Capcom's popular "VS" crossover universe.

SF4's producer Yoshinori Ono was joined by Tekken 6's producer Katsuhiro Harada at the recent EVO 2010 to announce an upcoming trailer set to debut at ComicCon on July 24. The rumored game in question? Capcom Vs Namco; a game that, much like the SNK VS Capcom crossovers of the early 2000's, will consist of two different iterations - one by both game companies.

As an avid fighting game enthusiast, this rumor has me both excited and worried.
If the rumors are true, and we get a 2.5D Capcom game as well as a 3D Namco game, then my apprehension lies within the balance issues. How do you pit 2D fighters against 3D brawlers and make the outcome something worth getting passionate over? Clearly a Ryu vs Kazuya match, or Heihachi vs Gouken battle sounds intriguing, but if the final execution is found shallow and wanting, then it could clearly hamper a potentially great idea.

What are your thoughts..? Yay, or Nay for this idea..?

It's going to be very interesting to see how they transition the two franchises into unfamiliar territory. I'm cautiously optimistic, but we'll really need to see some gameplay footage.

Capcom's game will probably rock. Namco's game... not so much. (Sorry Tekken fans... but Tekken can't even hold a candle to Street Fighter.)

yeah, im not much into tekken's gameplay either. maybe they will give the option of choosing which fighting style you get to use...similar to capcom vs. snk.

Aw man this is an idea I had like 3 years ago! Awesome. I just wish it was a full 2D game on Capcom's part but oh well. I love both Tekken and Street Fighter so this will be fun for me. I never played too many SNK fighters or read many Marvel Comics (more of a DC guy myself) so this is a game where I actually know some of the other characters. I hope this isn't just Street Fighter Vs. Tekken, and it will have characters from ALL of Namco and Capcom's series.

Also to those saying which style I hope its like, there will be two game, a Namco made one (akin to Tekken or Soul Calibur I presume) and a Capcom made one (akin to SF)

Don't forget Street Fighter's own foray onto 3D - Street Fighter EX. I actually played this last night for the first time in 10 years, and I have to admit - I felt some strong similarities in feel with Street Fighter IV. EX Plus was a 3D fighter on a 3D plane, but the feel was pure Street Fighter. If the Namco/Capcom crossover can capture that Street Fighter Alpha meets Dead or Alive feel to it, I'll definitely be sold!

But technically, wasn't that more of an SRPG or Action RPG in the vein of Namco's Tales's saga?
Also, it might just be nit-picking, but it was Capcom X (cross) Namco, not Vs...
Regardless, Ack, you're absolutely right - it's definitely not Capcom and Namco's first game together!
