Is this Mayflash arcade stick (USB) any good?

Post by Ivo »

I spotted this ad on a site that is similar to craigslist. I don't really use arcade sticks much as the only one I have is a Saturn arcade stick and it squeaks a bit when used.

I'm wondering if it is a good quality stick and if so if I should jump on it (for the advertised price or try to negotiate it).

I didn't put this on the "What is this worth" thread because I'm inquiring mostly on the quality of the stick, not on the price it is selling for in this case.

I've heard that mayflash's sticks are good for modding, at least.

I can't recall what the consensus of them was stock, but at that price I doubt it's hori-quality.

Thanks for the quick answer. I looked a bit in the forum just now (I guess I should have done before posting the thread):

I guess they aren't very good.

I have one, and it will do in a pinch - but it is nothing compared to a good stick. There is very little weight to it, everything feels a little loose (in a bad way), and it makes too many clicking noises when you move the stick. If this is your only/first stick, I think you'll be disappointed with it. However, if you need a second or third stick around and need to save some money, it's not really a bad choice. But don't make it your only/primary stick.

It's a good price for sure, but you'd have to mod it to really get the best form it.

I have no experience with Mayflash's Arcade Sticks, but their lightguns don't work worth a shit.

If you wanted to take care of that you could open it up and put a light dab of lithium grease on the pivot the stick shaft sits on. It will be full of plastic powder from grinding if you took a look right now.

I've got 2 both cost me $10 each. Well I can say they are alright 3 or 4 out 5 stars. My other arcade stick needs some soldering to it, so easy fix for early next month. I had trouble playing super street fighter 4 because I felt it was kinda hard to play with, maybe im wrong. Im usually use to ps3 controller, its faster for me. Actually im use to playing arcade machine, it feels more fuild control. Well I will tell you this its great for Mame. :)

Im still learning how to play arcade sticks, and how to play certain characters. I remember when playing Alpha series with Akuma and I was getting better each time. Then I decided to learn his moves then on. I still don't even know how to play about 40 to 50 percent of SSF4 characters. Right now im busy with school so I don't have much time for games except watching Keith Apicary on youtube. : )

Does it need to be specific product such as Lithium grease? I suppose WD-40 wouldn't work as it doesn't really stick and stay there...

White lithium grease would be best because it should stay put once is spreads out and it safe for plastic. I wouldn't use WD-40 or silicon spray. Maybe if you happen to be working on something else with gears that has a gigantic glob of grease hanging onto one you could steal just a little bit. :)
