From Wikipedia:Luke wrote:Wait. Mattel made a version of the NES?
Mattel handled distribution for region A, consisting of the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Australia and New Zealand, starting the following year. Not until 1990 did Nintendo's newly created European branch take over distribution throughout Europe.
European "Mattel" and "NES" Versions In the UK, Italy and Australia, two versions of the NES were released, the "Mattel Version" and "NES Version".[citation needed] When the NES was first released in those countries, it was distributed by Mattel and Nintendo decided to use a lockout chip specific to those countries, different from the chip used in other European countries. When Nintendo took over European distribution in 1990, they produced consoles that were then labeled "NES Version". The differences between the two are the text on the front flap, a smoother finish on the top and bottom of the "MATTEL Version" console and being compatible with US and Canadian NES systems.
Re: Most awesome bad cover art?
I think I might have misunderstood the original meaning of "awesome bad". Here's a few covers that I now think might fit what you mean.

Awesomely bad, eh?

...

I think he has cancer of the leg.

I actually don't think either of these characters are in the game.

It's so awesome they have to rip through the box art! Fuck yeah!

Re: Most awesome bad cover art?
Last Battle was actually a Fist of the North Star game in Japan. In the Japanese version they would blow up in a bloody mess so they had to censor it when they brought it to Europe and America, hence the hilariously bad death animation.dlmvii wrote:I love that game. Re: Most awesome bad cover art?
ShatterHand is actually a great NES title, almost as good as the cover art.
Re: Most awesome bad cover art?
Ico's US boxart is terrible!
I mean, look at the original! PAL has it too.

If each mistake being made is a new one, then progress is being made.

This article has some fun one's:

I can't believe I never knew there was a game called Ninja Scooter Simulator. That is super radical.
