By comparison, was anyone really pushed as the main character of FF6? It was different with FF X 2. Square had a female lead and wanted everyone to know it. And what an embarrassing excuse for a main character she ended up being

Not that I hate FFX-2, nor do I love it very much.
I still have mixed feelings with FF X-2, especially with its attempt to follow up on FF X. I do know some Western gamers were not warmed to the Oriental theme of FF X, but I thought the quality of its storyline was very good. But FF X-2 didn't have a solid storyline, as you had to take on mission to fill in the blanks, and you would have to play the play the game two times to get different perspectives (thou it doesn't change the ending, where there are three!), and that didn't help much.
The Dress-spheres were definitely for fan-services, and I thought the concept and execution were OK; just thought that the abilities for characters could have taken cues from FF V and FF Tactics, instead of changing Dresses again and again...
It isn't a horrible game, just when its following the great work of FF X, you know there are huge expectations to fill in.

I would like to know this question as well, I happened to have loved it. I actually prefer it over X, I really enjoy the customization between the characters.
