There seems to be some good films out and about at the moment, and I haven't been to the cinema in a while. I still haven't seen Avatar!
Last film I saw was Sunset Blvd. Was on television yesterday and I had heard of it before as being a "classic" so I watched it, and I thought it was brilliant! Sometimes the old films can be hard to get into due to some cheesy acting but I loved this, it was funny, well acted and the ending surprised me. Well worth watching.

Just saw the Book of Eli. This movie was great. I know a lot of people said there was a heavy Christian undertone, but I disagree. The Bible wasn't important because of God or anything, just because it was a powerful piece of literature that could be used as a tool. This film kind of made me thing of Road Warrior, like BOE was a story happening in the same time period, just in another part of the world. Neat.

I just watched a documentary called Game On the Unauthorized History of Video Games. It was a TV rip, I think it was a CNBC special. The first half was pretty good but I found it boring once they got to modern consoles.

I watched Gozu today, Miike never ceases to weird me out, I can handle most things, but obscene lactation is something I can never get used to- interesting movie about a guy who searches for his missing "brother" that he was sent to kill, must see for Miike fans(director of Audition and Ichi the Killer)
Also watching Stendhal Syndrome right now, and it is very good, classic Argento mystery about a serial rapist- Asia Argento plays a cop who is on the case, and is raped by the man- a little weird seeing as how her dad is the director- still pretty good though

Karate Kid 1 and 2. I haven't seen this movies since I was young. Amazing! The 1st movie gets me so amped. A lot of people don't like the 2nd nearly as much, but I think it is just as great. It has a great story with a beautiful backdrop. There are just as many cheesy moments that help to keep the movie light. The ending is just as fantastic. The final battle is a little less drawn out, but you can feel that the stakes are even higher as it is a life and death situation. Neither movie is perfect and there is plenty of nitpicking that can be done: like in the first, how come Daniel can crane kick a guy in the face, but when he got punched in the face in the same spot it was a foul? Or, in the second, Miyagi and Sato go against tradition and put their pride aside to rediscover their friendship, but no one seems willing to jump over the tiny mote at the end and keep Daniel and Chozen from fighting.
Watching both of these movies makes me want to see the remake/reboot/whatever even less. I keep hearing that I shouldn't compare the new to the old because it is not a remake... this is true in that their is a different cast and some tweaks, but it is pretty much the same story. The biggest issue I have is that the movie stars an actor trained in kung-fu who teaches his student, the lead character in the KARATE KID, kung-fu! I could list a bunch of other complaints I have, but this article sums my feelings up perfectly:

They are next up, but I have heard pretty negative reviews. Especially about NKK.Octopod wrote:Have you ever seen Karate Kid 3 and The Next Karate Kid?vash23n wrote:Karate Kid 1 and 2. Watched Zombieland and This is It last night. Both are good films if you like the genres. I had a chance to work on Zombieland actually, but 9pm to 5am jobs in February are not high on my to do list.

Zombieland is the shizz!
Watched Despicable Me yesterday, pretty cute. Steve Carrel (sp?) and Jason Seagal (sp? again. too lazy to check. ha) for the win.

The working title was "The Kung-Fu Kid", but was changed to piggyback on the success of the earlier installments.vash23n wrote:The biggest issue I have is that the movie stars an actor trained in kung-fu who teaches his student, the lead character in the KARATE KID, kung-fu!
