PC gaming has ruined my brain

Post by AmishSamurai »

So despite having several PC games for a while, I just got seriously started in it this year. After clocking several hours now, I have realized that by reflex my fingers move to the WASD position when I'm at my computer doing nothing.

Who else does this? Admit it.

I don't, but that's because I have a custom control scheme I use for first person shooters that leaves my left hand on SDFG (my first pass at this control scheme was ASDF, but I found that I wanted to have A available for things such as last weapon).

I used to do that when I played Oblivion. The first time you notice yourself doing it (while not playing a game) it is somewhat startling.

Even when I would be playing a PC game a lot, my fingers always go to find the bumps on the F and J keys.

I do this all of the time. Counter Strike Source is my poison.

I keep my fingers on ASDF when not playing a game, but I'm used to shifting my fingers between them for grenade buttons on F or G. I also took multiple keyboarding classes as a kid, so the home keys are quite natural to me.

Totally true. I rest my left hand on those keys.

Damn you computer!

Which fingers do you guys put on the keys? I have my ring finger on the A, the middle finger on the W/S and index finger on the D. Is there anybody out there that does this differently?

I do the exact same as Niode. It gives you the optimal reach for all your fingers, your pinky can trigger walk, crouch if needed.
