Best Dreamcast Shmups

Post by ott0bot »

I just re-bought a Dreamcast. Yeah! And when I owned one before I was never into shmups. I know about Cannon Spike and Ikaruga.
But what are the best Dreamcast shmups you've played?

Personally I enjoyed Cannon Spike, Zero Gunner 2, and Trigger Heart Exelica.
Ikaruga and Bangai-O great, but very challenging, IMO.
Everybody seems to like Under Defeat & Castle of Shikigami 2, but I haven't had a chance to play them much yet.

Here's a list for you:

Mars Matrix, Gigawing 1+2, Under Defeat and Bangai-O are my favorites.

I went on a 3 month mars matrix bender a few years back (eat, sleep, mars matrix, repeat)... pretty much got me into shmups. Between the dreamcast and saturn, the only thing missing is a good gradius title.

The Saturn has the Gradius Deluxe Pack (which includes I & II)

But not Gradius Gaiden, which was included with the PSX version of the deluxe pack. Sore spot for Saturn owners, I think.

I'd like to play some of the imports, but I haven't modded my dreamcast. Is there an a place I can obtain a boot disk easily? I tried a couple sites to find the Utopia disk or copies of the Action Replay CD-X, but I can't get them to work.

What's the easiet way to play imports anyway. I read the Racket boy guide, but the links to the boot disks are not working anymore. Someone needs an update....hmmm...
