My parents rarely bought videogames for me when I was a kid so I would always go over my friend's house. I remember playing a lot of MERCS, and Mario 3. My fav was Mario Kart and Mortal Kombat. Eventually we spent a ton of time playing Goldeneye and Turok 2.

I think I spent the absolute most time playing games during 3 summers when I played only Asheron's Call and MoH: Allied Assault.

Now I play everything. I have so many games I won't be bored for years. I think I get the most fun out of my retro systems and 360 arcade games.

During summer I actually played outside alot. When I wasn't doing that, Blaster Master comes to mind for a summer game.

I second this! Games as a kid were a present or a reward for me, (so they were few and far between..) I remember getting Kid Kool and Super C one summer, and playing the hell out of them for months because I knew it was all that I had at the time, (next to a pulverised cart of Mario Bros./Duck Hunt that was played to death,) and that I wouldn't see another game until Christmas.. Taught me to appreciate what I got! ( says the 29 year old guy with 700 games. )

Also, EGM ran this study/article a few years back: http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.off ... Id=3137498

They got a younger generation of kids to play Atari and NES games to see what they're XBox/Gamecube-warped minds thought of the classics. Made for a good read, if nothing else for their reactions to Adventure and Punchout!

I mostly read and played outside during the summer when growing up. However, I did play through Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Warrior III during the summers of my early teenage years. I also remember playing several PC Adventure games during the summer, like Day of the Tentacle and The 7th Guest.

My parents didn't let me play my video games during the summer. Instead they kicked me outside to play, where there was nothing at all to do and i'd sit bored for hours. I also suffered from hayfever. Sometimes I'd sneak my game boy color out with a pokemon game inside, but i rarely had batteries and normally used the adapter :p.

I understand why my parents did that, but i still resent it. Summer was a miserable time of year for me. I'm still not much of a fan of it to this day XD

I mostly played outside. I rode my bike a lot with a motorcycle helmet I got from a yardsale on - why wear the helmet? Because I would pretend I was piloting a jet, duh! I also had an ancient metal firetruck that you could drive with peddles... like an old school, non powered powerwheels. It came with little 3 foot ladders and I would fight imaginary fires for hours. I also would pretend I was in a war with my supersoakers. Running around, chasing imaginary enemies, getting shot hundreds of times, but still surviving to be the hero. As I got older I started playing roller hockey. When not at the rink, I would set up a goal and a bunch of trashcans in the street. I would play for hours, checking the trashcans, and pretending to fight them. I also lived close to the shore and, once I started surfing at age 12, was down there everyday of the summer when my parents got home from work. My neighbors must have thought I was nuts with the way I ran around all day.

Game-wise, I was obsessed with Adventure and Video Pinball for the 2600. Also, Berzerk, Fire Fighter, Atlantis, and Cosmic Ark. Once the NES came out, it was all about Super Mario Brothers. One of my sister's ex boyfriends taught me how to beat the game in 15 minutes. I was the coolest kid when other kids came over... you know what, I can still do it and I am still the coolest kid when my friends come over. I also loved Mario 3, Tecmo Bowl, Arkanoid, Road Blasters, Excitebike, Bubble Bobble (I hightly recommend this for anyone's kids, I have recently started playing on my Dingoo, I still can't beat it!), Bases Loaded 2, Heavy Shreddin', and Skate or Die 2 (mainly the halfpipe mode).

Back when I was in middle school me and all my friends use to play a lot of pokemon red/blue/yellow. I remember destroying my one friends rare candied all level 100 team with just my lvl 100 pikachu. (yellow edition). How embarrassing to get destroyed by a non fully evolved pokemon.

Before I could drive I would also play a crap load of runescape back when it was cool and only like 4 worlds and no one was level 99 in anything. Too bad its lame now.

Bubble Bobble, Legend of Zelda, and Fate of Atlantis are the three that stick out the most with me.

From what I've heard, you can't actually beat Bubble Bobble unless you're playing two-player.
