what u played as a kid during summer

Today my kids was complaining that they were bored and had nothing to do. They have the wii and a ds and they tell me that the games aren't fun anymore. I mean wow wtf? I got them mario galaxy 2, mario kart, mario party, etc and they both tell me that its not fun anymore. So my oldest asked me what i used to do or play when i was growing up and that gave me an idea to make this forum. So i pulled out the nes and all of the cult classics and my kids have not stopped playing since Tuesday. They cant get enough of mario 3 and kung fu, contra, punch out well you know the drill.
My question to this little story is as a kid what do you remember playing through or what game you used to play through the summer? For me I remember staying over my friends house on weekends eating pizza and drinking mountain dew trying to beat mario 2 and ghost n goblins. Going to the arcades and trying to beat ninja turtles and going home and trying to think the nes cart was just as good(we had good imagination as a kid in the 80's). So if any of you guys would tell a story of what game or system you guys played over the summer as a kid it would much appreciated so my kids can see what people played as a kid in the past from the 90's and 80's generation. thanks

When I was a kid I would play Goldeneye, Mario Kart, Pokemon, and Street Fighter II Turbo all summer long.

Super Mario Bros, Kirby, Ninja Gaiden, the NES had so many awesome games that took up my childhood free time. Kids today have the attention span of <insert something with no attention span> when I was growing up we rarely got new games for our consoles, it was a treat to get a game, so we played the fuck out of what we had.

Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros. 3, MT Punch Out, Castlevania 3, Darkwing Duck, Mega Man 3, Contra, TMNT II and Friday the 13th (All NES) kept me busy all summer when i was a kid.

I remember my parents taking me to my grandmas cause they both worked and i would always take my sega genesis model 1 and sonic. i'm sure i played others but sonic always topped everything else for me. grandma setup a tv in her sunroom just for me to play on. i really miss my grandma. she bought me my sega cd when they 1st came out.

I also remember playing goonies 2 over my friends house when his mom picked up the complete nes players guide. Man did that help us with metriod also. And yes if anybody here grew up in the 80's era you went out and played right after SATURDAY MORNING CARTOONS. Man kids dont have it as good as we did growing up. Remember this Nintendo cereal?

I would go outside and play. I would watch Nickelodeon doug, angry beavers, Rocko Modern life, ren and stimpy show, are you afraid of the dark, and slatue your shorts. I would play with my TMNT, batman, spiderman, and xmen toys. I would play street of rage 2 and beat the game many times. Did your kids even beat Mario Galaxy 2, terrible? I remeber playing Donkey Kong land on the GB and it took me about month to beat the levels and game.

Nope they played for about 3 to 4 days and gave up. My kids told me they rather play my nes games than the wii. And I thought the nes sucked to kids these days? go fig
