Assassin's Creed = Just Decent. Now I wish for brownies!

Post by Mozgus »

So for the past couple weeks I've been having some discussions, online and off, about my desire to see this game fail to meet the GOTY expectations. Well dreams come true, because the reviews are pouring out indicating that it has massive AI and combat issues, and graphics glitches. Basically confirming that all the shit E3 showed us was still in the final product.

Now why would I wish for disappointment for a game like this? Jade Raymond. Not Jade herself, but the media's non-stop coverage of her. The coverage has been so ridiculous that you might think she handed out little love notes to the journalists, stating that whoever praises her the most gets some head.

Ok, now I am all for women in this industry, but what exactly has this girl offered us? Jack squat, thats what. So why so much attention? Because gamers are severely sex starved I guess, I dunno. Seeing a person in the industry who is both female and cute is just too much for them to handle. It only took a few decades for one to turn up.

What really annoys me is that she's got more google results than Shigeru Fucking Miyamoto.

Now if only we could get some footage of this broad crying. Hmm, strange how I hate her despite it not really being her fault. Oh well. All aboard the hate wagon!

The creator of the game was a girl?

I'm sorry, I never ever cared for that game, hell I did not even know the game was even out. I personally just don't believe in any hype what so ever, or get excited over any games, I just know that in the end its going to be a waste of money, time, and shattered dreams.

So I just wait at least a month or two, see if the people liked it, or if the critics liked it. At the same time, wait until the hype dies down.

Mozgus, what do you think of Gabe's (Penny Arcade) post about AC?

Seems that the reviews might be off, and it may be a good game.

Wait, wait, wait, wait. I don't think you can blame Raymond for the amount of attention she is getting. I've seen a couple interviews with her and I don't I've ever seen her acting like she's pining for attention. Certainly nothing like Cliffy B. That guy is a self-admitted media whore.

No, I think the reason she gets so many so much attention has to be because the Internet is full of 20-something dudes who write about video games, and this person is pretty good looking. Destructoid had a headline a few weeks ago that read "Jade Raymond's Ass. Has Gone Gold." WTF? I wanted game coverage -- and gaming in general -- to grow the hell up for years now. When I saw that headline I realized we're still a long, long ways off.

I never said it wasn't a good game. But good games don't get labeled as GOTY. Well, there has been some fuckups in the past on low-tier media sites, but for the most part it doesn't happen. Only great to fantastic games make it to GOTY. I am just worried that if Creed got labeled as such, it would have a hugely negative impact on this industry. Other developers would start quickly snatching up pretty girls and throw them in front of the camera, just to get more attention and build more hype, which would ALWAYS ultimately make the final product suffer. I seriously think that if Jade wasn't in this spotlight, Creed would have turned out better.

Also, Gabe didn't cover the biggest issues they complained about in reviews. He covered the minor ones. The big ones are ones I mentioned earlier. Moronic AI equivalent to Tenchu on PS1, odd and boring combat system, and graphics glitches that have no place nowadays, especially clipping. You can see the main character get consumed by stone walls during combat animations.

Dude, read my post. I just said every little thing you said about Jade. I'm not going to repeat what I said, what you said.

The only catch is I'd like to see her cry, and I'd like the world to see it, at the recent news. It would shatter this awful cloud of smug.

Actually, you brought up Cliffy, and a I dug up a few comparisons.

Cliffy is a self-proclaimed attention whore. Jade is not.
Cliffy gets a moderate amount of attention, as much as he deserves for helping make some amazing games. Jade gets a megaton amount, but doesn't deserve anything because she hasn't proven herself.
Cliffy hasn't been on G4. Jade hosted the Electric Playground on G4 alongside douchebags such as Tommy Tallarico. G4 has a habit of hiring pretty, yet talentless people.
Cliffy is a designer. Jade is a producer, she hasn't been confirmed to help develop anything that I can dig up, despite supposedly having a degree to do so.
Cliffy created Cat-Scan.com. Jade did not. :) (it isn't working today though, :()

First I confess this topic is the first I have heard of this person and the second I have heard of this game.

But if I understand this right:
Shitty game is created and over-hyped
Extra hype given due to associated female producer
Game destined for mediocrity

And you hate and are annoyed by this woman so badly you want to see failure break her down to tears on camera. Wow!

On one hand I would give any free press I could in a market that saturated. Boo on the industry for being so pussy-whipped, but they do it to themselves.

On the other I could argue she is part of the problem and exploiting her position for what she knows is garbage, but it'd be a weak arguement; I don't think I could convince myself or anyone to actually hate her for trying to make a relatively honest living. The media though, are probably acting retarded as shit about it. However I find the topic of the video game industry's fascination with tits as dead a horse as the comic industry's.
Let my legs shake me to sleep, and don't wake me when I sweat on my sheets.

You know Mozgus, I can definetly see your point here but you yourself know that this isn't her fault. So try not to blame her.

I too am very happy that AC has failed to live up to its overwhelming expectations. For two reasons, one because I think that this games potential was restricted heavily due to Xbox 360s DVD medium. The second because this game was way too over hyped, infact I'm currently writing up something in my blog about this whole issue. I'm really frustrated that games like AC and CoD4 were so overhyped and yet when they were released the game's gameplay was the weakest point(this was obvious tho, CoD4 was going to be very scripted in feel and AC would suffer the same cobat issues as the PoP games). And yet a game like Mario Galaxy has come in and surprised everyone because it has a very traditional gameplay focus.

Anyways, just my spill.

I keep stating that I don't hate her. I'm just saying that her visual disappointment on the results of this project would have a hilarious effect on the fanboys.

Well I do blame her a little. She could, lets say, NOT have hosted a show that was made purely to glamorize a select few good looking people who have had some microscopic connection to this industry. Especially Tallarico. I have no idea why he's all over that channel. The guy did the Earthworm Jim soundtracks, which rocked, and then nothing else noteworthy. She could have also limited her exposure time just a tad and did some actual work. It seemed like interviews were coming out daily. I dunno how she found much time for work.

I just wish that some people who actually do the hard work in game development, would get even 1/20th of this attention she gets. I feel sorry for them. Why don't we hear from the dudes who were responsible for the game's climbing acrobatic movements? People like this have interesting things to say. I've always liked how open Valve is. If you are a big enough fan, you know the top dozen employee's names and faces and roles. You feel connected to this company and have a better idea of what to expect the next time you pay. I love it, and I'm better their workers like a little credit paid their way.

Back on track, I don't want a pretty girl talking about shit she doesn't really understand. You know why? She's a distraction. That explains why these reviews are a shock to people, even the media themselves. They spent the last year thinking "MMmmm, hot Jade." and now bam! Game has some big flaws that we didn't see coming. How did that happen? Maybe we should have, I dunno, looked over Jade's shoulder at the game being played in the background? Maybe just once or twice?

I wouldn't be surprised if distraction was part of her job. It wouldn't shock me if she's fucking brilliant at what she does, because this did seem like a very effective angle. She got it so hyped up that the bad reviews aren't going to do more than dent it, while the oblivious mainstream buyer is still happy to fork over the $60. It's going to sell very well, probably far better than other higher rated titles this year. And for that, she'll be sticking around to do it again.

But this is just the cranky attitude of a young 22 year old who is starting to feel like an old man in this hobby, missing the innocent times when gaming was nowhere near pop culture. And before the internet in general. I had a 6th sense for finding awesome games without the aid of a third party source for validation. I rarely bought a turd. Sometimes I wonder if I can hone that skill again, or if I must continue relying on game journalism as a life line for not wasting my hard earned time and money.

Haha, well maybe. A lot of people have noticed that females don't seem to catch my attention on first glance....at all. So yeah, I've been asked if I was gay by both parents, a sister, 3 neighbors, and a friend. The list is growing. But you're doing a joke post, so I guess I should have shut up.

I just have to share a couple items.

Some people seem to think Jade made the game all by herself. Well, it's true. She did.

And then what I suspected, all summed up in a NOT SAFE FOR WORK comic.
