I've noticed that since we have condensed price checks into a single thread, people seem to be getting less response to their checks. This may be just confirmation bias on my part, or it may be that (as I suspect) people really disconnect from long threads like that when the title doesn't even give them a hint on what it is about at the current stage.
I suggest an alternative: let people create a new thread for each price check, but in a separate forum (or subforum of BST) created for this purpose. That way people can see the titles and if they want to comment go into that thread.
I pass my request on to be discussed here by the users and by the moderators.
Ivo.

I personally think the way it's done is fine. I click on View new posts and just ignore that thread and some other threads that I'm not interested in (video link dump thread, henry grik, etc).

that's exactly his point though.gtmtnbiker wrote:I personally think the way it's done is fine. I click on View new posts and just ignore that thread and some other threads that I'm not interested in (video link dump thread, henry grik, etc).

I ignore them because I'm not interested in the topic, not because the thread is long-running. There are long running threads (transaction feedback, which rpg you're playing, etc) that I do read and am interested in.AppleQueso wrote: that's exactly his point though.
Personally, I get annoyed with the "What's this is worth topic" since one should be able to look at ebay completed listings, vg price chart, etc to figure this out.

Re: Suggestion for forum and "What is this worth"
I can see the OP's point. I tend to ignore that thread too. But if I saw an inquiry about an item I was knowledgeable about, I would chime in.

I get annoyed with this too - almost any answer people get is taken from others who have searched eBay, VGPC, etc. I was hoping the thread would be used for really obscure/rare stuff that isn't listed on those sites - but so far that's not the case.gtmtnbiker wrote:

I like it being all one thread because I generally click 'view new posts' when i come on to the forum, and already spend some time filtering through the BST threads, without a half dozen 'what is this game worth im too lazy to check completed listings on ebay' threads.

Re: Suggestion for forum and "What is this worth"
THIS I agree with big time. I think that's another reason I stopped looking at the long thread. I mean, if it was filled with really obscure shit, then it'd be exciting to read through. But if someone asks about a handful of common games or whatever then, meh.dsheinem wrote:I was hoping the thread would be used for really obscure/rare stuff that isn't listed on those sites

I find Video Games finds of the day an enjoyable read. Sometimes get to read about some rarities.Ivo wrote:I've noticed that since we have condensed price checks into a single thread, people seem to be getting less response to their checks. The What is this worth thread to me is pretty useless.
If something is a good deal it should have already been bought. Might not be there on a return visit.
Item can easily be researched thru numerous sources listed by other replies above for an INSTANT estimate.
As far as the query about the disconnect of long older threads, a very valid point. Its not because an older thread is long though. Most replies happen if a post is on the Front Home Page. Once the post moves down off that page it dies, unless a very popular topic such as Favorite Movie or the Game Finds. As example how many times does a brand new post occur concerning HDLoader, Console Game Cart Contact Cleaning, CDR read issues, advice on starting collection on a given console or even suggestions on improving forum layout? All legitimate questions that have been posted with feeds already that now get readdressed all over again.
My favorite, View new posts might be more active if also on the front home page?
Racketboy has mentioned that eventually the front home page might include new replies to existing posts. That should alleviate the need for creating new threads of an existing similar topic to generate replies.
