Looking for a good NES emulator frontend. Any suggestions?

Post by ThrashOmen »

I first got into emulation back when I had my highschool computer app classes. It was all just typing and microsoft office bullshit so I learned how to use my time for something more useful. So I discovered NesterJ :)

I used it for a while but never got too attached to it, Now i'm back into getting into emulation again and I've been using VirtuaNES. I've used FCEUltra, maybe I wasn't using it to it's full capability but It just didn't click with me like VirtuaNES.

Does anyone know of a NirtuaNES frontend, or suggest a multi-emu frontend, OR, perhaps a better emulator than VirtuaNES that has a good frontend?

I would really like something simple. Like just a cover, screenshot, and if we're talking luxury then maybe a spot to customize for a plot/synopsis and for the bigshot stuff maybe some chiptunes in the background ;)

Thanks for any help.

I tend to run my emus bare-bones but since this hasn't gotten a response yet I figure I'll toss a few ideas out.
You could try Maximus Arcade, it looks really good.
A Google search for "emulator frontend" would probably turn up a bunch of others.
I really like the frontend on FCE Ultra for Xbox. Too bad it's not implemented on the PC version and the latest versions of the PC one have full-screen-drawing bugs on my computer.
To be honest I just associated my NES games with Nestopia and have it start full-screen. I prefer it's screen filter that emulates NTSC artifacts, and I do most of my work in Total Commander's shell so this is almost the opposite of a front-end.
Let us know what you come up with if you find something that fits your needs. I'm planning to build a MAME cabinet eventually and always enjoy hearing more about the solutions people find.

I recommend HyperSpin for a frontend for all your emulators. It's very nice and supported by the community.
