By the way, Grant Wahl, the soccer guy from Sports Illustrated, has put out a very well written piece on the World Cup finals: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/ ... /index.htm

Well, it appears that Spain won. Since my family is Hispanic, we were all thrilled when Spain made the goal.(Iniesta, who made the goal, plays for my favorite soccer team FC Barcelona)

I didn't like Spain's victory, but then again, the game was not very good. Yesterday's match was much better. Too many fouls today. I would've preferred the Netherlands to win, but based on today's performance, they didn't actually deserve it.

Ditto, and to make a point I left after the 2nd half ended. Can't say this tournament has re-ignited my interest in soccer.

Pick a club to root for. There's where most of the world's fanaticism is born :)

I don't follow football much, but based on the netherlands attitude in this game, and their seeming lack of sportsmanship, I'm glad spain won.

This sport could use a reboot: Sacking top FIFA execs, routing corruption, scaling back player compensation and just plain getting back to basics.

Btw Casillas deserved to hold the cup more than the entire team. For a world star he doesn't seem to be arrogant (from a few personal accounts from people who met him)

I agree. Remove offsides and allow full body tackles.
