anyone here have fast-running dreamcast or ps1 emulators on their pcs? i was just curious at the specs of your machine.
im gonna be getting a new laptop soon since the one i have is pretty weak, but i wanna be able to play dreamcast and ps1 on it. i took a look at the minimum system requirements for the emulators but i know that sometimes even if you have what it says some games will still chug or freeze for some stupid reason.
anyone know what are the optimal specs i would need to just ensure that any game i could play on either system would run at full speed with sound and all that jazz?
EDIT: also, i've found a lot of good sites through google that host dreamcast and psx isos for download, but i've noticed especially with dreamcast ones that people who upload them often remove some content from them to allow them to be bootable from a 700MB disc. all the games will be on my hard-drive so that wont be neccesary....do you know some good sites to get isos for either games that are full & unedited?
if you have a dreamcast or ps1 emulator, help me out

Re: if you have a dreamcast or ps1 emulator, help me out
Well personally I suggest going to a retro game store and picking up some old DC games.
You'll have more pride in your collection and you'll be inclined to spend more time with one game at a time than if you have a whole slew of DC games.
But as for game rips, I also suggest taking your time to look up some info about ripping and dumping games so you know what to look for and how to use it. More advanced emulation like PS1 or DC take's a little more knowledge to get what you want working how you want.
I know this probably isn't the help you wanted but when I got into PSX emulation alot of people told me the same thing and I appreciate them for it now.

i have a dreamcast and a ps1 already lol im just interested in emulation for personal reasons but thanks anyways. either way ill search how people rip the games so i can tell if theyre straight off the disc or if theyve been altered in some way.

PSX emulation can be done not only at fullspeed, but at high resolution with any reasonably modern computer. Any late model p4 or any c2d at all will have no trouble.
Dreamcast, I haven't emulated. However, what you're looking for in terms of disc images are called GDI images. That should help you google.

ripping DC yourself is painful.
I'm sure someone here will post that link with all the good DC rips for you.
As for emulation, I'd say DC requires fairly beefy specs, but just about any modern computer should be able to handle it decently.
DC emulation is too far into the realm of "not good enough" for me to care about it though.

The best emulator for the PS1 is psX. You can put discs in your computer's disc drive and run them. That's how I got my Parasite Eve fix when my PS1 broke. Also, I had a shitty laptop with less than half a gig of ram that could do PS1 emulation. It got hot as hell though.

I've struggled to get my ePSXe one working. Have a Dreamcast one working fine though, only problem is Shenmue is real jerky, this is probably because I don't have a graphics card, well I do obviously but only the motherboard default jobby. 3GB of Ram is probably the only thing keeping it ticking over. Ecco and Daytona work fine. Games can be quite big files mind.AmishSamurai wrote:The best emulator for the PS1 is psX. You can put discs in your computer's disc drive and run them. maybe this will be more efficient; here's the basic specs of the laptop i was looking at:
intel core i5
4gb ram
nvidia geforce gt 330m 256mb
how are nulldc and epsxe gonna feel about that? i want 100% speed with sound for all games on either system

Re: if you have a dreamcast or ps1 emulator, help me out
So spend a ton of money to get choppy Dreamcast game play or just spend a little money and get the real console? Why not just Mame your Laptop and enjoy those Dreamcast games at full speed on the original console? Same with PS1 for 100% compatibility nothing beats the original. If portability or at least transportable is your bag get Treamcast or White PSOne with the LCDs.
