The problem with that advice is that the "quit it" portion of the process becomes much more complicated after the "hit it" maneuver has been completed. Much easier to "quit it" before all else.

Is this the first DQ game you've played? I want to jump into the series, but not sure where to start. Might try DQ7, for it seems like no one talks about it.

I'd say start on V. It's considered the best by the creator himself. I is also a nice place to start. It's very vague though, a lot like the NES Legend of Zelda games.

I've played all of them except IX extensively, and I must say VIII was the one that really sucked me in. Logged about 150 hrs into it. Great story, endearing characters, beautiful graphics, art style and just tons of things to do and see. VII is really slow to start and the graphics were awful back then and haven't aged well at all. Overall though it was a good game just not the series shining point if you know what I mean. I would recommend trying another one first. I can't wait to pick up IX tomorrow morning, I've been really looking forward to it. I've got all my DSi Dragon Quest accessories ready to go!

yeah this is my first DQ game me and my friends are all getting into it for the multiplayer. From what i've read its not really typical of the DQ series in that the focus isn't on story at all its on the multiplayer aspects, the items, levelling up, questing together etc... however i find myself as addicted to playing this by myself as i would be playing with friends. If you want a typical DQ experience i think 5 or 8 are the ones to go for, but if you're looking for a great pick up and play ds rpg which you can play with your friends i can't recommend this game enough!

Im actually playing through the first one right now. I have a translated version running of the SNES remake of 1 & 2 running on a emulator on my HTC EVO. It is awesome. I remember getting the first Dragon Warrior for my 9th birthday 20 years ago and I was too young to understand how RPGs worked (yes, it was my first). So I still have not beaten it to this day. When I was a bit older my cousin show my how to play it and I made it to the Dragon King and wasnt high enough level to beat him. However this time I will succeed. It really is truly exciting for me!

Man that's a bit disappointing. I'm sure DQ9 is going to be fun as hell but... I was really hoping it was going to be story- & exploration-based like all the other DQ games. I love the unique storytelling angle each game gives to what is basically a cliched storyline. Ah well I'll pick it up anyway...
I have a ton of games listed at my store's site: Super Smash Video Games

My copy arrived yesterday and I spent all night playing it. I'm getting a definite DQ3 vibe from it, but with the DQ8 skill system. Which is a combination of awesome + more awesome.
