I'm rather amused that this was ignored, but I'd agree with you. I'm a gamer of all generations, and I have found Rock Band to be one of the most fun games to play. And with a keyboard coming out? Heck yes. I've never been able to read sheet music, but I understand muscle memory, so it's perfect for me, and I get to do it with songs I love. Honestly though, the real fun comes in the overall experience and the guitar is my least favourite part. It's a true party game.Ivo wrote:A couple of comments I want to make here:
2. While the kids playing Guitar Hero and the cashier are probably imbeciles, I think some posters here are unfairly railing on Guitar Hero as a "minigame" or a "casual game", and using those terms in a borderline offensive tone (if I'm catching the vibe of the comments correctly, that is. In the net it is hard to know for sure). It really isn't that much different from other rhythm classics like Space Channel 5 (which also had "casual appeal" back then), which also requires a good amount of dexterity, and I don't think people here would be calling Space Channel 5 a mini-game here. By doing that to Guitar Hero aren't the posters here acting ignorantly just like the kids and cashier did in the store?
Ivo.
Unlike quite a few people I was never able to afford any of these systems going up. But if I could afford the systems, I could never afford the games. My brother's dad purchased him an NES when it came out (essentially, as a year's worth of child support) and so I grew up with an NES. We never had an SNES, and the family pooled money together to get an N64. I went on to buy a dreamcast and PS2 about 3 years after each of them had released, but had to resort to a hard drive mod to afford playing most of my PS2 games. I never even owned a handheld until a few months ago. Even though I'm not much better off now, it is so nice to be able to play all these games that I saw my friends play as a kid and hear about but never get a chance to myself.
And I love this community, and without it, I wouldn't be able to play so many games that are hard to get otherwise. I'm not quite the hardcore collector (once I finish a game I either keep it or move it so I can afford new ones - the sad reality of the poor student), but I feel like I have a whole new world to me now that I don't have to play games on emulators or by other less-than-legal means.
