Best game soundtracks ever
Re: Best game soundtracks ever
Have to give votes to Soul Reaver and Soul Reaver 2, both had amazing soundtracks. I don't really get why Blood Omen 2 had a meh one and Defiance just recycled tracks mostly. Blood Omen was decent but didn't have enough tracks in my opinion to be really good, although I always really liked Solemn Dirge from that game, it set such a great mood.
My favorite Sound Track of all time though belongs to Street Fighter Alpha 2, I always felt that this game had the best track list of any fighting game. Sure, a few of the tracks were remixes for old characters but they were done so well that they were really different. If you've never really had a listen you should take one. But then again, I've always been pretty fond of Capcom Fighting Game tracks. I'll just list the rest of my favs as I don't want to drone on.
Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of the Superheroes
Sonic Adventure
Street Fighter III: 2nd Impact Giant Attack
Resident Evil (Gamecube, very chilling)
Sonic the Hedgehog 1 through Sonic & Knuckles
ToeJam & Earl: Panic on Funkitron
Vectorman 2
Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake
Resident Evil 2
Command & Conquer Red Alert
Diablo (May have only had five tracks but they were all, REALLY good.)
Diablo II with Expansion
Duke Nukem 3D (Saturn Remix)
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Myst
Riven
Starcraft with Broodwar
Warcraft 1 through 3 and World of Warcraft with all expansions.
Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Final Fantasy Tactics
Metal Gear Solid 1 through 4
Silent Hill 1 through 3
Final Fantasy X
Astal
Daytona USA (Incredibly cheesy but I don't care, good memories)
Marvel Superheroes vs Street Fighter
Nights into Dreams
Sega Rally Championship 1 and 2
Sonic CD (American and Japanese)
Super Metroid
Bionic Commando Rearmed

Right on. I was going to include the NES version in my list, but I felt like it was already getting a little long. And I've been on the verge of downloading the remixed one on iTunes.Unleaded Logic wrote:The Bionic Command soundtrack is one of my favs, including the remake version.
Has anyone checked out the DJ Axis remixes on screwattack.com? 10 remixes used to be available there, but now there's only a tribute to them, since DJ Axis left the site. Anyway, here's the link:

Re: Best game soundtracks ever
Many of my favorites probably couldn't stand on their own as music albums, but they fit the games well, IMO.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Mega Man 2
Half Life 2 (not much music, but what little there is fits perfect, IMO)
Halo (all of them)
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Crimson Skies (I remember really liking this one)
Mechwarrior 2
And I can't really think of any more...

Systems: Atari 2600, Atari Jaguar, NES, SNES, N64, GameCube, Wii, Genesis 3, Genesis 2, 32X, Sega CD (model 2), Saturn (model 1), Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox (Modded), Xbox 360, GameBoy, GBA SP, Game Gear, PSP... always adding more
Re: Best game soundtracks ever
I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but the soundtrack to Bully is pretty damned sweet also. Not what I'd call classic or anything, but definitely on the upper echelon of game soundtracks.

*trying to keep it short*
-Rocket Knight Adventures
-Dracula X
-Metal Slug (as a whole, there is lots of quality music in every game except 6. 6 sucks)
-Street Fighter 2
-Voodoo Vince. This game is pretty basic but it is a rock solid kind of basic. the soundtrack is amazing, jazz and blues music is something I don't hear in many games that don't involve skeletons.
-SHENMUE!
-Jet Grind Radio/JSRF
-Sonic Adventure
-Sonic 2/3&K. When I think of my favorite soundtracks Sonic and Megaman are the first things that pop in my head.
-Megaman 2/3/&F/9/X. While I am not crazy about RM&F, I have died in that game so many times that the music is sort of engrained in my head.
-Chrono Trigger
-FF6
-Nights
-Daytona USA
-Godhand
-Jackie Chan's Action Kung-Fu
-Panzer Dragoon series
-Do-Re-Mi Fantasy (listening to just the music annoys me, but listening to it as I play the game is perfection.)
