Dude I love it. It's the best hobby i've ever had. I used to climb like everyday but since I moved into the city there's no place close. Indoor or boulders.

When I lived in Seattle I went on a few real rock climbing trips which was a blast though.
Ah. I'm in a similar situation. I got really into it several years ago when I lived near a climbing gym, but then I moved and didn't have any good places nearby or interested climbing partners. Now I'm married and trying to finish grad school and can't commit the time. Ah well. Someday...

There's all types of alternatives. Trees with thick bark, bridges, tressels, abandoned buildings that are falling apart (by far the most fun) and you can find apps for phones and GPS's that will show you if there's any actual rocks close by.

Only thing that blows is that all my friends are lame as hell so I end up having to go by myself.

I don't know how many times I've heard "I'm not going, it's too expensive and It hurts my hands "

I remember my first month I think every callous on my hand had been torn open. BE A MAN! :o

Yeah, I've actually resorted to some of that. Back when I lived in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, a buddy and I would regularly go rappelling off an active train trestle. It was pretty cool, since it was about ninety feet up. However, I did eventually nearly get my little sister killed when the two of us were in the middle of the bridge, her all hooked into the harness with the ATC ready to go, when a train showed up.

And I tried to climb my dormitory building during undergrad. I got almost to the third floor.

Also, light posts. The big ones in parking lots are kind of neat.

I haven't looked into the abandoned building bit, though. Since I'm an "adult" now, I guess I'm a little worried about getting in trouble.
