Anyone else avoid going Super Sonic in the Mega Drive games?

Do you go to doomsday zone if the emeralds are in the hidden palace but you don't have all the super emeralds? I know you can't turn into super sonic in the levels.

I do, sorta. The whole super sonic thing was cool as hell at first, but the game just ended up MORE faster than it should, and i just kept falling into death pits.

The closest i came was like 4/6 (yes, six) on the master system version of sonic 1.

The easiest game to do it in is Sonic 3. There's 4 special stage entrances in angel island alone. Plus there's the save game thing so even if you beat the game without them all you can just pick levels and keep trying.

To be honest I never avoided going super in the mega drive games, but then I never had trouble finding enough rings to finish the level with. Particularly once sonic 3 and knuckles came in because the star post stages were soo ludicrous with the amount of rings they contained. The only exception was death egg zone, when I would hold off going super till the end boss if I could so I could buzz kill him with hypersonic.

Yeah but the first part of the boss can't be hit even if you are super/hyper sonic, so you most likely will run out of rings before you get to the final boss

I could never get all the emeralds in sonic 2, that last emerald stage was really annoying...I actually like using super sonic in 3 but I will admit it does ruin certain boss fights but its the funny kind of ruin where a boss just becomes a complete joke.

Pro tip: kick Tails out of your party, play as Sonic solo. The emerald stages become bearable then.
