I have try to keep up with them, but was given a JVC projector some time ago and stopped paying attention to them. Well now the JVC has givenup the ghost (needs a new powersupply which will run me $300). So for $300 I started looking at other projectors. LED, Laser, and CRT projectors have always fascinated me since I could use one as my actual tv (well theoretically for the LED). By chance I found the AAXA M1 Plus and I am really interested.
For $300-350 it is a 66 lumen LED projector that could fit in your pocket. It has VGA and RCA inputs and has favorable reviews. I am very interested in it since it looks like it could finally be the LED projector worth picking up. But I am curious to if any of yall have actually used one. I would mostly use it for videos and gaming. At home, in nigh pitch black, on the road in dim lighting.
Links I found to people using it:

And yes, I thought about hacking an eyeclops:
I dont know if I can help that one.
Anyone know about LED projectors?

Dude bad idea, all around just a bad idea.fastbilly1 wrote:*snip....it is a 66 lumen LED projector....*snip
I've bought like four or five cheapo projectors like this over the course of the last few years and always end up returning them because I've never gotten what I expected.
Even in pitch black these suck and suck hard, trust me. When it comes to projectors quality really makes a huge difference. If you're just looking for an older low-rez projector for your retro gaming look online for one from the late 90's. Lots of schools are finally ditching their older projectors and these are still good machines with very bright and easy to replace bulbs but also with a 640x480 resolution perfect for retro and Dreamcast gaming.
This is what you want:
It's comparable in price, tiny but not too small, has a bevy of inputs and is designed around mobile gaming and entertainment; heck it's even got DLP!

Re: Anyone know about LED projectors?
LED projectors have a set of issues, I am very aware of them. But the power consumption for them may out weigh it. My JVC was 600 lumen and pulled something like 400 watts of power, the LED one pulls 40 something watts. Those old projectors you are talking about pull alot aswell.
Also I am going to wager that the ones you bought were like the Cyclops mini projector, or the one from the sharper image, that have 7 lumens, right? this is the first 50+ lumen LED I have seen in the under $1000 range.
I mean I could easily go and buy a $300 office projector, but I was hoping for something that I didnt have to worry about bulb life.

Nah, most I bought were in the 30-45 lumen range still though I hated them.fastbilly1 wrote:LED projectors have a set of issues, I am very aware of them. The projector I linked you to is $249, has a 500 lumen brightness, 1,500-1 contrast ratio and comes highly recommended:

Re: Anyone know about LED projectors?
Ive used that one and while it is ok it has two problems:
1. 1000 hours on the bulb (give or take)
2. 260 watt power consumption
The LED projector as 30,000 hours on the bulb and sub 50 watt power consumption. But for anyone who is intereseted in just a cheap projector, I agree the IN1 is pretty good for goofing around. And Newegg is the cheapest for recertified:

(well now they are out of stock)
A buddy of mine suggested to pay the extra $200 for the LG HS201. It is roughly the same as the AAXA but 200 lumen and has HDMI.
Granted the whole point was to keep it in the $300 price range but that is tempting.

Hmm, aside form more low-end and pico style projectors I don't have much more knowledge on the subject I've always stayed more on the direct view side of things.fastbilly1 wrote:Ive used that one and while it is ok it has two problems:

Re: Anyone know about LED projectors?
From what I can tell, and the couple of times I saw LED "pico" projectors in action, they're just too dull to be of any real use or interest to me. I've been looking into the tiny laser projectors with some interest tho. The Microvision SHOWWX and AAXA L1 both seem to be pretty cool from the previews, pictures and reviews I read. Those would actually make an impromptu movie viewing or music visualization anywhere I was at possible for a small crowd. I have to admit it'd be pretty cool to pull the equivalent of a big screen TV outta my ass.
Still, for the price of one of those ($500+) vs the features they offer I'm just gonna take the dive and get a proper DLP projector. Hopefully the BenQ MP670 will live up to my expectations.
