I tried another 4mb game (xmen vs street fighter) and it showed the loading screen and the press start button bit fine. However once i pressed start it went to a black screen with no sound. On ssf the game goes to a black screen with sound but that could be ssf :/.

I tried a 1mb(metal slug) game with the switch fliped and it worked fine.

.:update:.
did the clean and i still have the same problems with the 4meg games.

Well, I can exchange it for you, but I'm already back-ordered on the three new carts that I'm waiting to come in.
I'll be getting more at the end of the month if you're willing to wait until then...

i also have had the same problem i tried x men vs. street fighter and waku waku 7, they both start up fine and i can view the demo while it says to press start but once i press start the game either scrambles up or it just goes to a black screen. i tried cleaning out the slot but im going to try some more and see what happens. it does work with metal slug but not with the 4mb games.

I made a couple of homebrew Saturn apps that use the RAM cart. All of them perform a check if the RAM cart is present and if it's content can be accessed properly (that's what you need).

Best would be you try out the snes9x emulator, it requires a 4MB RAM cart. Playing CD-Rs is no problem for you, right?
You'll find a ready to burn ISO with public domain ROMs here:

I was wondering if there was any conclusion to this issue? I recently bought a NIB Derby Saturn and xmen vs street fighter and am having the same problem.

The copy of the game I bought came with the original RAM cartridge but i get that black screen once i press start. I was thinking the cart might be dead so i was going to buy one of the ones from here before i read this post.

Was anyone able to get theirs to work in this scenario? If so, what, ultimately, was the problem? I hope it's my ram cartridge and i dont have a dead slot because i paid a good amount for my system and it definitely was never used, maybe just to turn it on, because it is in immaculate condition. Thanks!
