7-zip/Dreamcast burning help

Post by Pabstblueribbon »

so ive figured out how to burn Dreamcast games, which is awesome, but I seem to have an issue with multi disk games.

This is where I am getting all my stuff from. Some of these are split up into .7z.001, .7z002, etc. When i download one of these, I try to use 7-zip to unpack, but i keep getting an "unspesified error". is there another program that would work for this (winRAR doesn't)? I can do single disk, regular .7z games no problem. A lot of these games can be found that way but id like to go with these rips as they are top quality. Ive done some googling on the topic but cant seem to find very much.

It depends. Some times the person will use 7z to split the file, in which case you just unpack the first of the files and it opens the rest automatically.

But when you have .001 and .002 files, that was split using another program. Use HJ Split (free program) to join them into ONE file, then use 7z to unpack the image.

I guess I can't speak for all archives, but at least for Tux's releases, you can use 7zip to extract the files, even if they are labeled .001, .002, etc. Just use 7zip to open them, then extract as needed.

For example, Shenmue comes in the following pieces,

shenmue_dcres.7z.001
shenmue_dcres.7z.002
...
shenmue_dcres.7z.008

for the four discs.

Just open up .001 with 7zip, and extract the contents. If you have any errors, it is likely due to one of your downloads not completing properly, or if you are missing one of the pieces of the archive.

If you have any other troubles, let me know. And good idea going with Tux's releases.

My whole issue was none of them would unzip, I got some of the regular .7z to work, but nothing with the .001 extension. I ended up getting what I wanted elsewhere anyways, but that site has a few that I want that didnt work correcty so I'll have to use your advise, thanks guys
