So I bought an N-Gage, what are some good games/emulators?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

So I bought an N-Gage, what are some good games/emulators?

Post by Mod_Man_Extreme »

EDIT!!!: Just bought an N-Gage and had it activated today, what are some good games or emulators for it? I've heard that the original GameBoy emulation is really good but can't find a free emulator anywhere.

Ok, so I'm about to pull the trigger on a gently used N-Gage QD but I have a few concerns.

Namely:

1) Will AT&T still activate this despite it being an older phone?

2) If I just get a free phone with my plan and pop the SIM card into the QD will the AT&T card work in it? It's a former Cingular phone and AT&T bought Cingular so I'm expecting yes but have no experience.

3) Are the older hard to find MMC's it uses swappable with SD cards? I've heard MMC's and SD cards in themselves are compatible with each other minus one or two cosmetic differences.

4) What are some AT&T plans you guys recommend for a perpetually broke GameStop slave?

Re: Buying my first ever cell phone, need some advice!

Post by CRTGAMER »

When my daughter lost her new cell, she had to temporarily use her old phone. From a Mythic back to a LG-CU500. Had to buy a new SIM card and get it activated. Eventually got her a new Mythic phone, SIM was simply swapped over at the ATT store without having to buy a new one. I didn't see if anything was done by the worker other then plugging the SIMM into the new phone. Also when looking at the ATT computer screen, it did show the LG-CU500 as being used before. I imagine the "Big Brother syndrome" when phone is turned on. Might prevent one from simply adding a card at home. Another thought, if mainly using that N-Gage as not a cell but just for games is that ATT can give you a free dummy Simm to enable the phones features. I did that with the old LG-CU500 to operate as an MP3 player.

Maybe get in good with one of the workers that you have already dealt with. Can answer these question better and has those dummy SIMS.

Not sure if SDs would work, I thought they were different from the MMCs.

Assuming you have one I don't see any reason that you couldn't just stick a AT&T sim card in it. I can swap my sim from my (new-ish) Blackjack 2, to my previously Cingular SLVR without any problems.
II guess my best advice would be to find a friend with that carrier and try their sim before committing to a contract. If it comes down to it it'd probably be easiest to just get a free phone with your plan and sell it on craigslist right away.

Hmm thanks for the tips, I'm going to make the N-Gage my main phone as I've never had a cell phone before and always wanted a unique/old-school handset to carry around. Sure It's the N-Gage QD so it's not as iconic as the original (Sidetalkin'!) but the N-Gage is one of the first cell's that I really remember wanting like crazy. Plus, most of the game don't look half bad.

I haven't gone to the AT&T store yet as I don't have the N-Gage yet but I plan on probably getting a free phone with a pretty affordable/minimalist plan and doing the sim-swap if I can't just get them to re-activate the N-Gage itself.

Hopefully N-Gage is not locked to say Verizon. When they set you up with the free phone route be sure to get the original dummy SIM that comes with that sealed packaged phone. Can then be a backup MP3 player and the rest of features enabled including 911 emergency calls.

I guess it is a type of Smart Phone, could affect the contract?

The N-Gage is strictly GSM so it's either on T-Mobile or Cingular/AT&T with this model in particular being a former AT&T/Cingular unit. Hopefully with some finagling I might be able to unlock it later on as AT&T will actually unlock your phone after a few months, or when your contract begins to run up provided you've been in good standing and never missed any payments.

If its Cingular shouldn't be a problem at all. I had 4 of the LG's I mentioned earlier for my family. Two were Cingular and the other two were ATT. Even the bootup logo would show Cingular on the CU500, the CU500Vs had an ATT bootup. ATT had already took over Cingular so all the phones were under ATT plan. A side note the CU500s have the crappiest batteries ever. Glad I moved up to the Samsung Impression, kids have the Mythics. Speaking of batteries, another thing to look at on that NGage, perhaps the old battery in it may not hold up especially when gaming?

If you trust this vendor, a great price!

I haven't looked at any AT&T plans in quite some time ( they don't even offer the plan I have anymore). Last I looked they didn't have plans for less than around $30-$40/month, you may be able to get a pay-as-go for less than that from them depending on your needs.

Yeah, I'm considering just ripping the sim out of an AT&T Go Phone and using it instead of a whole plan.

Also, anyone have any experience unlocking these things? I just wanna know for the future so I can have the option to use T-Mobile if I were somehow inclined to.
