Yes, the XL will support WPA security but only for the web browser and DSi games. For DS games, you still need to use WEP.

It is heavier so I can't hold it in my hands for long period of times if I'm using the stylus a lot (e.g, Picross 3D). So it's better to use your lap or a table.

You can use the built-in browser to browse websites but I typically don't.

I haven't bought any DSiware games yet. I'm waiting for the Shantae sequel to come out. I have plenty of DS games to play first before buying more. It doesn't help that I just bought a NGPC with six games earlier today.

The DSi also has a much nicer d-pad than the DS Lite. It's much more clicky and I found it very easy to use when I was playing Mega Man ZX and ZX Advent.

I'm on the fence with buying a DSi XL because of the announcement of the 3DS. I have an old phat DS at the moment so the upgrade would be welcomed. It would be a birthday gift but I really don't want to waste people's money if its not worth it. Obviously the decision is mine in the end but I would really appreciate other people's opinions. Thanks!

Since you already have a DS its better to WAIT. When 3DS comes out you'll be able to make a better decision. By then the DSI XL will be cheaper too.

I've bought the DS, DS Lite, DSi and DSi XL all at launch. Probably will do the same with 3DS.

In my opinion, for most games, the DSi is better than the XL for me. I'm kind of annoyed with the XL's size, or rather weight, after living with it for a couple months. Plus, I frankly think my old baby-blue DSi was cooler-looking than this funny bronze/black/gold XL.

As it applies to someone who will probably also buy a 3DS at launch next March (estimate), I'd say sure, buy the DSi now, but cherry-pick your DSiWare download purchases. The difference between DS "Phat" and DSi is stunning.

My even smarter advice, since I'm also cautioning from buying a bunch of non-transferable DSiWare, might be to buy "just" a DS Lite.

If you have a DS already, then WAIT! Play your DS games just fine on the old DS, and when the 3DS comes out, you should make your decision. Keep in mind the 3DS is NOT just a remodel. It WILL have many games, not playable on the regular DS.

...every single DS game in my home just received a huge relevance boost. All of a sudden...I can play even Metroid Prime: Hunters without it hurting my hands. It's still a crap game but now the pain is only in my heart.

How loud is the DSi XL? One of the nice things about the phat is the thing is extremely loud. The Lite is like a mouse by comparison.
