Guitar Hero is more of a casual game than any Nintendo game will ever be!

I really liked the first Guitar Hero. It was really difficult and merciless and timing for taps and hammer downs. Once everyone caught on to it, the second one came out and was much easier. Then the third one was designed and published by completely different people and sucked. The product placement was maddening, aside from the poor song choices and just shitty gameplay.
It's kind of sad though. I was at Good Will yesterday and bought a GH2 guitar for PS2 for $5. Discarded trends depress me.

I've had conversations with coworkers who don't quite understand why I keep everything hooked up. My philosophy is that it was fun back then, and it doesn't stop being fun now, and they pretty much accept that.

That's actually one of the nice things about the old classics. They're always there to comfort you whenever some new crappy, overhyped game comes out and dissapoints you.MrPopo wrote:I've had conversations with coworkers who don't quite understand why I keep everything hooked up. You know what I find so interesting about retro gaming? Not only are many of the old classics just as much fun as the newer games(evidenced by all the retro games coming out lately), but if you really took the time to try and play every great classic, old game, you'd be busy for years. You'd never have time for your Xbox 360, Playstation 3 or Nintendo Wii ever again. One look at the huge and ever expanding list of articles on HG101 is proof of that.
Tons and tons of little treasures out there that so many young people today won't ever even think about playing. Real shame. So much to learn too. I honestly don't feel that a person can truly appreciate gaming as much as we do. We have such a thorough understand of where gaming has been, where it has come from. It gives us such a different perspective. I think it's kind of sad that some people today can look at a 2-d game and just cringe. I guess that's the Playstation generation for you. Me I see something in 2-d, the nostalgia kicks in and I can enjoy it just as much as I can enjoy any modern game

this is exactly why I still don't find a reason to spend the money on a current gen console.Gamerforlife wrote:MrPopo wrote: You know what I find so interesting about retro gaming? Don't know if I'd go as far as to say you'd never have time for ps3/360/wii, though I could easily wager that by the time you got around to those consoles, current gaming would be at least two generations ahead.Gamerforlife wrote: You know what I find so interesting about retro gaming? I kinda felt the same way about this gen. I ended up buying a ps3 one day when I had the extra cash to do so. Was it worth it? I don't know, maybe, I doubt I'll be exploring its library fully until the ps4 comes out though.noiseredux wrote: this is exactly why I still don't find a reason to spend the money on a current gen console.

Only thing I can find to play on my PS3 are Valkryia Chronicles and BlazBlue. Everything else is meh or it can be played on PC.

that's the thing. Sometimes I think I'll buy a Wii, but then I figure well for $200 I could get a shitload of GB, GBC, GBA and GCN games that I'd still like to try!AppleQueso wrote:I kinda felt the same way about this gen. That's how I've been pretty much my whole life. I didn't own anything newer than an SMS until 2004. I've never in my life spent more than $30 on a game, and I've really only approached that figure a couple of times.noiseredux wrote: that's the thing. Re: Are people oblivious to the fact that we exist?
That's exactly my philosophy too, except replace that with Saturn, Megadrive, Dreamcast and N64 games. I just have no interest in the current generation at all. My family do actually own a Wii though, but I never play it and don't own a single game myself personally for it.noiseredux wrote:that's the thing.
