I try not to think about it too much. In my opinion, the greater portion of the more main-stream games belong to a demographic that has become synonymous with racism, homophobia, fratboys, and morons.
If anything, the neglect or contempt that mainstream gaming has for us is a blessing. I know that when I say something here I'll be met with understanding, intelligence (mostly), camaraderie, and be treated as a peer.
I never got anything close to that during my brief ownership of an Xbox.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: Are people oblivious to the fact that we exist?
I know how you feel i wish they would go die in a hole, its hard enough retro gaming down here in Australia i was born in the 32-bit generation and 19 yrs old now, everyone thinks im a freak for playing old games i know 2 other people who enjoy them and thats my best friends and only one activly collects them.Replica wrote:The retro price gouge is very disheartening. It really takes the fun out of collecting. I hope this recent retro trend dies off a bit. I'm tired of seeing emo kids with NES controller belt buckles that profess to be "old school."
Then again its a pain collecting things here, like the op shops and cash converters are just...bare beyonde belife, iv only ever seen like 2 sega saturns in my life and one was in a demo booth at K-mart when i was like 8-10 i think.
Then again alot of "common" things are so hard to find here iv played a NES once in my life and that was at my old day care center when i was 5.
Re: Are people oblivious to the fact that we exist?
In a way it's quite weird. Retro gaming has definitely seen somewhat of a resurgance, or a growth. However actually trying to buy anything older than the Wii, PS3 or 360 proves to be almost impossible in actual Games shops on the highstreet.
In games shops here in the UK, from the early/mid 90s when I first got into gaming up until about 2006, you could always buy games, consoles and assessories for the older generations. Then all of a sudden this generation came and anything older just got wiped out. It's really sad in a way, because I always used to love looking at the older games and seeing if I could find any gems or bargains. Now it's all about Ebay with it's ridiculous high prices thanks to collectors.
Anyways, I've always been into older games. I wouldn't say I was a total retro fanatic, but I'd say I've never limited myself to only the newest systems and technologies. To me it always seemed close-minded and ridiculous to limit yourself to only the latest consoles, but maybe I sound slighlty pretentious saying that.
Right now the newest console I own is the Dreamcast. Some point in the last generation, whilst owning a Gamecube and Xbox, I just reached a real apathy for modern games. On top of that, modern gaming can be so expensive (ok, so can retro gaming obviously, but I feel the vast amount of bargains outweighs it for me), so I just thought fuck it and decided to start buying for older systems, and I've never looked back since. I sold my Gamecube and my brother has the Xbox at his house. Only recently though I've been slightly missing the gamecube... But hey, there's a Wii sat downstairs in my house.

Re: Are people oblivious to the fact that we exist?
That reminds me - a few weeks ago I was on a night out with friends, was pretty drunk, and the barman was wearing a 'Nintendo Rehabilitation Clinic' t-shirt. I was like "man, love the shirt. What's your favourite N64 game", and he just looked at me like I was some sort of moron. I think during all this I'd managed to order a drink before realising I had no money left, but anyway, if he didn't know shit about the N64 then I'm glad I was 'the asshole who orders drinks but can't pay'. He deserved it!weasels wrote:hey think of it this way, at least we aren't the posers.Ripley wrote:
