I too love this movie. Fuck the critics on this one.Limewater wrote:I thought about mentioning Equilibrium, but I just assumed that it had decent reviews. It has some major continuity issues, but it seems to be the only one Kurt Wimmer has gotten right so far. I liked it.

I think the reason The Spirit didn't do well critically is because after Sin City and 300, they were just sick of the whole make a movie look like a comic book thing. Guarantee you it would have done great with the critics had it come out before 300 or Sin Cityl0whit07 wrote:Got to love the Movie threads.
You all have mentioned some movies I have loved that got less than positive reviews. It seems a lot of action movies do not do too well with critics.
I was checking a lot of the movies I own with Metacritic, most of them were rated pretty good.
2 that were rated poorly, one I'm surprised at and one I'm not at all!
Equilibrium (2002, R, Starring Christian Bale and Emily Watson) Metacritic: 33
I thought this was a solid movie! Christian Bale rocks. Man crush on this dude.
I think I even read at one point that this movie had like the 3rd highest body count by a single person in a movie.
The Spirit (2008, PG-13, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes)
Metacritic: 30
It was ridiculous, fun, funny, and had 3 sexy ladies in it. Not to mention it looked cool.

Seriously. Screw you Shao Kahn I'm gonna play Animal Crossing.
When the first Weekend at Bernie's came out, I really enjoyed it. I can remember laughing at it hysterically. I recently watched it again after 20+ years and I didn't find the movie funny at all. There was one scene that I laughed at but the rest of the movie was pretty bad.Pulsar_t wrote: The only movies I can think of right now that were universally panned yet loved by this humble homo sapien are Weekend At Bernie's 1&2, whilst I cringe at the maltreatment of Bernie Lomax's corpse the movies have so much cheese/campiness/silliness I regard them as timeless comedy classics.
