I'm excessively partial towards all of M. Night Shyamalan's movies, and my post reflected my own views and I made sure that I didn't state "Metascore vs Deserved score"

So can you list a few movies that you think are massively underrated/undeservedly panned? No need to post snapshots finding them is a bit time-consuming

A few more:

Rambo (2008). Metascore: 46. My score: 70.

Paycheck. Metascore: 43. My score: 60.

Brother. Metascore: 47. My score 65.

I actually wanted to see Speed Racer, until I saw all the awful reviews it got

Does Ebert's opinion really matter? I think Kickass did good with most other reviewers.

The Transformers animated movie remains a favorite of mine to this day, but was generally hated it seems when it originally came out. I actually loved the cartoon more after that movie. I've got an old generation 1 Hot Rod boxed lying around somewhere

I think Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico should have done better with critics than they did. It's like they didn't have the indie cred that El Mariachi had so didn't do as great with critics

Pirates of the Carribean:At World's End was great I thought, but it got a 50% average on Metacritic.

People can justifiably bash Sandler's Little Nicky, critics certainly did, but the movie holds a certain charm for me.

I think Oldboy is actually another one the critics got wrong. It's a bit overrated. I actually hated the ending to that movie

I'd agree with most of your picks Pulsar - I can't believe some of those scores on the list are so low! Like you, I do usually concur with most critical consensus on films, but there are certainly films that they seem to miss the mark on (it seems critics automatically hate Arnie and SNL alum movies for example). In fact, critics often fail to evaluate a film by at least partially considering its genre, which I think is a flaw of much of modern popular film critique. Some films revel in their campiness, gore, distasteful humor, etc. and really should be evaluated against other films which try to do the same kind of thing.

That said, I'd agree that 95% or more of this list is made up of true stinkers: http://www.metacritic.com/video/lowscores.shtml

Same with the list of worst films of the 2000s (scroll down): http://features.metacritic.com/features ... he-decade/

I don't see one film on there that I think deserves to be lifted from that list. So in general, Metacritic is a good guide for helping people find the best of the best and avoid the worst of the worst. It's that 30ish-70ish scoring range that is really a toss up...

He is very knowledgeable about films, so I would say yes. Just don't let it sway your own too much. Remember, Siskel argued with Ebert every episode.

I didn't think to look up more of their lists it would have saved me some time digging through my Excel sheets  It'd be nice to do per-critic statistics to find reviewers who hand out higher scores to movies that one would typically enjoy.

Oh, I know Ebert is knowledgeable, but I find it surprisingly that some people place so much importance on just this one guys's opinion. I always look at percentages, so sites like Metacritic, Gamerankings and rottentomatoes I frequent a lot.

I thought Superman Returns was great. It did well critically, yet practically anywhere I go on the internet these days, people bash it.

I think Troy was pretty good, it's just barely above a fifty on Metacritic I think.

I'll echo comments on Clue and Spaceballs. They were great

It's because of his show.

Yeah, that's true. I guess having a show=credability. I've disagreed with him on a lot of things though, but I can certainly respect how knowledgeable he is. He loves movies as much as we love our video games

I really liked The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, and even The Village.

I think he's a great director; I just like him much more as a director than as a writer. I don't think the writing has been strong in any of his films, and has been particularly weak in his last couple.
So can you list a few movies that you think are massively underrated/undeservedly panned? No need to post snapshots finding them is a bit time-consuming
Here are a few, all based solely on personal opinion:

Super Mario Bros.: Everyone hates this film, but seriously it's a lot of fun. I can't defend it as cinematic gold or anything, but I think it was panned by critics for being completely ridiculous (and it is), and it was panned by gamers for not being more like the games. I could go into more detail, but I just think there's a lot to like about Super Mario Bros.

I don't see a metacritic score, unfortunately.

The Island of Dr. Moreau: Yes, the 1996 version. I think this was criticized for two big reasons. 1) It's really weird. A lot weirder than the typical large-budget production. 2) Purists could easily see it as a rape of the source material. Despite a lot of production difficulties, I think the finished product was pretty solid.

Pandorum: It's not high art, but it's a pretty solid sci-fi horror/action film. It only has a 28 on metacritic.

Oh yeah, and I agreed with the list regarding Speed Racer. I don't like the Wachowski brothers, but it was actually pretty enjoyable.

Dead and Breakfast: This has a Metacritic score of 34. I saw it at a film festival and everyone had a great time. I thought it was hilarious.
Systems: TI-99/4a, Commodore Vic-20, Atari 2600, NES, SMS, GB, Neo Geo MVS (Big Red 4-slot), Genesis, SNES, 3DO, PS1, N64, DC, PS2, GBA, GCN, NDSi, Wii

No love for Spaceballs? That's an all time classic. Actually, everything Mel Brooks has ever done is an all time classic.
