Do you have similar feelings towards horror and slasher films and novels? Are Wes Craven and Stephen King closet murderers?at what point do you think to yourself, "why the hell am I listening to this?"

Re: Black metal
Beastiality? Who sings about beastiality? Also gore/violence isn't really a black metal lyrical staple.
Re: Black metal
There is probably some goregrind band somewhere.AppleQueso wrote:Beastiality? Who sings about beastiality?
But, yeah, I do not think that that is a theme explored by BM bands.

Yes, over the top violence mutilation is ridiculous and un-needed.AppleQueso wrote: Do you have similar feelings towards horror and slasher films and novels?

Re: Black metal
well at least your position is somewhat consistent. If you had said that it's "different" when you write a book or direct a film about it, I would've had to go into a bit of a rant. Music lyrics don't have to be personal, they CAN be entirely fictional.
probably worth pointing out something I said earlier in this thread:
probably worth pointing out something I said earlier in this thread:
plus, I want to point out that most noteworthy black metal lyrics aren't really about violence/murder etc unless we're talking about the really early stuff. Just a quick example:...on the lyrics, lyrics aren't really much of a focal point in this kind of music. I can easily say that lyrics are probably the LAST thing I bother looking at as far as a band is concerned
And that's from one of the most popular songs in the entire genre. I'd hardly call that a display of excessive violence or rape or anything.Everything here is so cold
Everything here is so dark
I remember it as from a dream
In the corner of this time
Diabolic shapes float by
Out from the dark
I remember it was here I died
By following the freezing moon..
It's night again
Night you beautiful
I please my hunger
On living humans
Night of hunger
Follow it's call
Follow the freezing moon..
Darkness is growing
Eternity opens
The cemetery lights up again
As in ancient times
Fallen souls die behind my steps
By following the freezing moon..
Re: Black metal
Don't BM bands sing about the hoar frost crunching under their feet as they walk in the forest and shit like that now a days?
Re: Black metal
Lol, there is a lot of nature poetry in black metal. I guess it feeds into the pagan angle.

Guys, seriously, some of you all need to relax and take a break from this thread. I've been letting it go on despite the arguments because other mods had been part of the discussion, but I think the negativity needs to stop.
Quit the personal attacks. You may love or hate different types of music, but seriously quit the personal attacks. There's no need for it. Lay off or I'll lock the thread and start passing out warnings.
As for a personal opinion, black metal has some amazing music, but I'm not always comfortable with the material, and the vocals tend to turn me off from the genre. I'm very specific about vocals in music, and metal is no exception. I also tend to lean heavily towards thrash metal and the styles of metal that are more....well, "fun." As in I like a lot of metal and its various offshoots that make me laugh or make me have a good time. Bands like Gama Bomb, Bonded By Blood, Municipal Waste, Violator, Annihilator...you get the idea.

Re: Black metal
I prefer thrash myself. I am a beer drinking kind of guy and thrash is more of a beer drinking kind of music.
I think I may even prefer NWoBHM over BM also. I like the cheese in a lot of it.
