I searched the forums (and Google), and I could not find an answer to the following question(s).
I am contemplating modding my "High Definition Graphics" model Sega Genesis to output an S-Video signal; however, I would like to be able to use a Power Base Converter to play Sega Master System Games. Does anyone know whether I would be able to use a power base converter on my Genesis after I modded it? (If so, I assume that I would have a better picture on my Master System games too. Is this correct?) If not, would I be better off trying to get one of these:

BONUS NON-VIDEO GAME RELATED MODDING QUESTION:
(I told my wife that I was going be posting a modding-related question, and she insisted that I seek the Racketboy community's technical expertise with project that she is undertaking)
My wife recently purchased a Zenith H723 radio:

and she would like to mod it (i.e., gut it) so that we can play CDs and MP3s on it. She would also like to be able to use the original dials to do things like skip tracks, turn the power on and off, etc. (I am sure that we would have to add buttons to the back and side to encompass all of a CD players function, but she would like to use the original dials for major functions like power, volume, etc.) Anyway, if you were beginning this project, where would you start? (My inclination is to salvage parts from thrift-store CD boomboxes and work in stereo inputs for attaching an external MP3 player.)
Any help with either of these projects is greatly appreciated. (We both do a lot of intense home-improvement projects - and we are pretty fast learners - but we are new to this home electronics modification thing.)

You absolutely can still use the master system games with the s-video mod and they look incredible!
One important note...the converter hangs over a large portion of the genesis's rear. Make note of it's dimensions before you mod your genny. In my case I had to remove the converter from it's plastic case to use it(because my svid/stereo plugs wouldn't allow the converter to fit snug).

I had the exact same problem as bigtinz. You either need to put the ports pretty far to the side of the back. Or you can just put it on the sides of the system, I've seen a number oy systems done that way.

That answers my question. (I guess my wife is out of luck.) Thank you very much for your help.BigTinz wrote:You absolutely can still use the master system games with the s-video mod and they look incredible!

One possibility, although this would diminish the value of the PWC is to dremel cut arches into the over hanging plastic. It might look kind of cool and it's safe to do since there are no components in that part.
