Model 2 saturn chip not working
Model 2 saturn chip not working
Alright so I installed the chip and had a professional at a local shop sauder the connection onto pin 14 however when i boot the saturn the disk won't spin and it says "checking format." I tried taking the chip out, filing down the edges so it would sit better, checking the wires/having them re-saudered incase those thin wires lost their connection yet nothing. Any ideas? By the way when i take the cable out of the chip and put it intothe saturn directly it reads real game disks perfectly.
Do originals play with the chip in?

by the way I just used a power multimeter to test is power was getting from the saturn to the chip from both the power and the signal line and both lines read the same from the base where they were saudered onto the saturn to where they are saudered onto the chip so the chip is getting both power and a signal.
Shoot me an email and I'll exchange it for a new chip.

I think there are a few reasons that the disc won't spin. Here is a list of a few: http://www.angelfire.com/pa/Raluminat/troubleshoot.html
I know that mine was due to having the modchip in backwards (oops), and so that the connectors were not touching the connectors to the motherboard. If it is not that, then just make sure that the ribbon cable is also connected properly to the chip. I think your problem is usually due to the cd drive thinking it is unplugged (the type of behavior you are getting sounds the same as though the ribbon cable is just unplugged, even without a modchip).
I do not claim to be an expert by any means, so if I am wrong here, anyone feel free to correct me. Just sharing thoughts on my own experience. Hope you get it working !
