So I got this slim PS2 from someone who said it was droppped and stopped working. Well I tried it out and have found that it works on and off. I can get it to boot a disc about 1 out of ten tries and only when I start it with the game already in (dont know why that makes a difference but it is the trend).
Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has experienced or knows what the cause is before I crack it open myself. When it works, it works fine.
Help please, anyone?

9 out of 10 times, what exactly doesn't work about it? Does the system not turn on entirely? Or will it turn on but not boot a disc?

It boots and plays fine from time to time. Other (most) times is will not read the disc.

Clean the eye first and polish that disc. Since it was dropped maybe open PS2 and look inside?
