Oh, I didn't realize they're almost the same thing. I guess I might just have to keep my scissors handy to fit it in.

IDE drives only started being called PATA after SATA drives came out. The difference being the cables. Parallel ATA versus Serial ATA. You can only use an old style 3.5 drive with the wide ribbon cable with the PS@ broadband adapter. Now you might be able to cram an SATA laptop drive in there with an adapter.Dylan wrote:Oh, I didn't realize they're almost the same thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATAAfter the market introduction of Serial ATA in 2003, the original ATA was retroactively renamed Parallel ATA.

Oh, so if it's a 3.5 it should fit natively? Thinking about this, today I took out a spare 40GB 3.5 Maxtor in an old computer I had lying around. Looks like it's going to come in handy.

You probably want to have your PS2 lying flat since the HD won't have the extra cage around it so will be a little loose side to side and you won't want to be moving it around a lot. But yeah, I actually have an old Maxtor 40G in my main PS2. Fits on the adapter just fine.Dylan wrote:Oh, so if it's a 3.5 it should fit natively? I think with the network adaptor screwed in to PS2, the drive is pressed against connector and the inside back of the PS2. Still good idea to leave fat flat. Avoid drive moving off connector, disc insert balancing act on tray and the risk of PS2 toppling over.
I have Maxtors 200gb and 250gb in both of my fats too, work great! Maximum game size will be 4gb some are only 1gb. CD games limited to 700mb. You should be able to fit a few games in that 40gb drive. For later on bigger drive purchase, I would stick with IDE/PATA to avoid SATA interface headaches.

I really oughta get me a ps2 fat with an HDD someday.
On the other hand I just love using my ps3's wireless controller for ps2 games soooooo much though.
(yes I know the milage and YLOD risk, I already plan to get the entire thing re-flowed if/when I ever get YLOD)

Unbelievable convenience of PS2 HD. All my PS2 games are put away in the bedroom safe, ready to reinstall.AppleQueso wrote:I really oughta get me a ps2 fat with an HDD someday.

No digging out 3 layers deep of DVD cases from shelf, simply select from Hard Drive with a very quick load.

Excellent, I think I'll pick up a network adapter as soon as I can, I believe that my local gamestop has one for $15.Hobie-wan wrote:You probably want to have your PS2 lying flat since the HD won't have the extra cage around it so will be a little loose side to side and you won't want to be moving it around a lot. I've heard that you can't go over 128 GB as far as hard drives are concerned with the expansion bay, but evidently that's not true? Does this require any tweaking?CRTGAMER wrote:I have Maxtors 200gb and 250gb in both of my fats too, work great! Maximum game size will be 4gb some are only 1gb. CD games limited to 700mb. No configuration needed on mine. Plug inside network bay and then run HDAdvance/HDLoader which will auto-format your hard drive so the PS2 will recognize it. Then simply install your games.Dylan wrote:I've heard that you can't go over 128 GB as far as hard drives are concerned with the expansion bay, but evidently that's not true?
