Had the chance to play around with a co-worker's iPhone 4 today. The screen resolution is seriously insane. If (OK, when) they bring this technology to the next generation of iPad next year, it's going to kick serious ass as a tablet device.

I'll replace my iPhone 3G later this summer. I'll wait until after the rush.

I thought how the video call could see the phone's front and back side pretty cool. Maybe a lot of phones does that already...but it's new to me and a great idea. Facetime just uses wifi right?

No.05 - Higher megapixel count != better camera.
No.04 - I've never had a problem with the iPhone keyboard, having used the alternatives on the other current smart phones, I have to say, despite my initial reservation of an all-touch keyboard, it works very well. After having some 2 years practice with the iPhone variations, it's second nature now, I don't need to look at the 'keys' at all.
No.03 - Video calling, that is the fault of your shitty cell network in the US. I have absolutely no idea why Apple haven't allowed facetime to function fully under a 3G connection in the UK, where our 3G network is far more robust. Mobile phones have had this function for nigh on 8 years now in this country.
No.02 - Shortages, demand for Apple products are always astronomical. You have to be ahead of the curve to get your hands on one launch day. Anybody not willing to make amends to ensure they're there early enough on day 1 will have to wait. That's just the way it goes.
No.01 - I have no idea why the iPhone is still exclusive in the US. It's on every single network in the UK (apart from Virgin I think) even Tesco (AKA Walmart) Mobile has it.

"It will be on the next upgrade."
Apple could come out with a new version once a year and still make a killing.
Maybe even every 6 months for followers to do a bi-annual lineup.

Agreed. I'm no Apple defender, but for devices as thin as current smart phones, optics are the major limiting factor, not resolution.

Niode wrote:No offence, but why are people who aren't buying an iPhone 4, or even have the faintest interest in buying one; posting in this thread? Do you go into a PS3 thread saying that you have a 360? -Does not compute-
I just find the hype silly and I'm sorry but I don't think the best of people waiting outside a store all night so they can get their hands on a machine before everyone else.

Are those people that shallow that the only way for people to notice them is by saying "hey look I have the new iphone the day it was released, anyone want to see?"

hell we don't need a repeat of the PS3 launch someone got shot fiasco :S

Now I would love an iphone myself, but too expensive for me, and since the thing that amazes more about it are the games, I'd rather buy a cheap Nokia phone like I always do and save the money for a 3DS on launch date :D.

But I will not be sleeping outside in the cold for one :P

I agree. There was a disgusting amount of people in line saying that they were cancelling their contract 6, 8, 9 even 12 (!!!) months early (and being charged £20 a month to do so, only to go into another 18-24 month contract, the providers must be laughing all the way to the bank). Just so they could have the iPhone on day 1. They are idiots. I don't want to be lumped in with these idiots. I bought my iPhone 3G last January (18 months ago) specifically because I knew the next next iPhone would be out in June '10 coinciding with the end of my contract. Lo and behold, it was. This wasn't luck or coincidence, it's just common sense with a little bit of foresight. If people weren't fucking morons about these things and planned their purchases ahead of time I'm sure we wouldn't be in the same dire situation with the economy. People just don't think.

This goes for all you gibbering idiots buying into 24 month contracts like fucking morons. Get an 18 month contract, it's always cheaper (yes even when the reps try and convince otherwise) don't buy the next iPhone, it will be a speed upgrade and that's it. Trust me. Go on a sim only tariff for 6 months which will save you even more money. Then buy the real update to the iPhone 4. It's just common sense - One thing that so many people seem to lack these days. I swear the vast majority of people's higher brain functions have been replaced with a magpie. "Shiny shiny shiny shiny new things, must have no matter the cost. Why am I in so much debt?". If anybody wants some reasoning behind the above roadmap. Look at every apple device ever and note their upgrades/release date/cost. Apple work like clockwork. That's why blogging sites (like gizmodo/engadget) love them. They can take guesses and be right 75% of the time.

Pro-tip: Don't buy the current Macbook Pro. The new one will be out in less than 6 months. Source? I don't need one. Apple is that easy to predict.
