Playing Game Boy games in black and white on GBA SP?

Post by cabrando »

Is this possible? I don't have an original Game Boy and would like to be able to do this.

I think GBA will automatically add 4 colors on the games that have it.

I know it's possible. I think you press the DPad Up and B when the Gameboy logo comes up (when you first turn it on). If it's not Up and B it's probably something similar.

You mean the old GBC color codes for running Game Boy games?

OK, I thought he was talking about regular GB games. Regular GB games will automatically get assigned a color pallete when played on GBA SP.

The GBC/GB games have a set palette made for GBC. Is that even what he's talking about?

I was talking about original (Black & White) Game Boy games being played in black and white on a GBA SP.

Yup, left + B is grayscale. Wikipedia has the palette codes. Grayscale is by far my favorite mode when using the Gameboy Player through my TV.

And by "Thanks all" I know you mean "I thank you with all my heart, slowslow"

BTW, there's also games for original Gameboy that had Super Gameboy support that would have a preset color palette. Wouldn't it just be easier to not make the system black and white?!

The games you are talking about are the black carts which had GBC and GB support, while you can play these carts in the Super Gameboy, in colour, Super Gameboy carts are different, they had differant features that only work in the Super Gameboy, and not in GBC/GBA/Gameboy Player, such as Borders, extra sound effects, 16bit versions of games (Space Invaders), etc.
