Also if your Xbox has the Xbox Live dashboard... I don't think you can softmod it... but I may be wrong.

Thanks a ton everyone for all the responses. And especially the links. I've been on xbox-scene for quite awhile now.

I've found out I have a Samsung drive, which is good I hear. I also have a WD HD which doesn't really matter. I also have a v 1.6 motherboard which sucks!

I think I am definitely going the hard mod route. Does anyone have some good sites to purchase a chip from. Almost all of the ones I've checked out are "Out of Stock".

Sorry CRTGAMER. I do not think soldering is for me. I've definitely tried to learn and I can solder easy things. But after frying an N64 trying to RGB mod it, I decided to leave the harder soldering projects for other people.

Keep the hints, tips, and suggestions coming people! Thanks.

Eurasia.nu is a site that I bought a few of my chips from.

They're based in Thailand.

Thanks everyone for the help SO FAR! :)

A little update: I have sent the mobo and new HDD away to be hard modded. I am extremely excited for it.

In the meantime I am trying to decide what to do with the case. I don't want to do anything too fancy, but would like something done to it.

I've seen these cases around:

There are various colors. They look kind of cool. They say they do not include the base, because the base is not visible once installed. I'm assuming they mean the bottom piece that the mobo sits on? Isn't that piece partially visible though.

Also considering these "skins":

I've never used "skins" before. I've heard they are difficult to install.

Also may consider some LEDS if I change out the case.

Does anyone have any experience with these specific things? Of course other suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

The best cases are the xcm cases. The ghost cases crack rather easy. The plastic is made of the same plastic as cd jewel cases.
There is member here I did a LED mod for his case I'll ask to upload so pics to give you an idea of where to add LED.
PSone, Xbox, PS2, DC, SS Mod Service, PM for details
