Looks to me like the running is a bit slow paced. You do have the dash, but the default movement should be faster.
It also seems like the jump is too short. However, the controls aren't something that i can talk about before actually playing the game, since i need to experience them for myself. When i first saw the trailer for Ninja gaiden sigma, i thought those controls looked awkward, but how i wrong i was..

The character design is another thing that bothers me. It's not the fact that they are drawn in the anime style, being that i am a fan of anime, but just the clothes that he's wearing. Pink and white? Are you kidding me? And what is up with that helmet? Why the hell are your pants so wide? Nice scarf, though.
Overall, the graphics are pretty nice. Even though the background is 3-dimensional, it's detailed and the colors are very vivid. Not that typical bland crap that you usually see today. I hope that the whole game doesn't consist of pastel colors, though.

The weapons are another thing i should mention. It seems that most of them are laser weapons. Nothing wrong with lasers, but machineguns and missiles should be a part of the arsenal.

There are a lot of things that differ from the traditional Contra games, but i am not unwelcoming of change. As long as they do it right.

All this Contra talk is making me want one. Which Contra is the best on PS2?

Shattered Soldier is 2.5 D, so it's more like an old Contra game. Neo Contra is isometric, so a little like Red Star/Expendable. I've only played through a few levels of each, but I think they're both good.

If you can find a used SS at Gamestop, it's $10. There was a copy near me with a clean looking cover, but no manual the other week.

I haven't played Shattered soldier, but it looks amazing. The isometric ones on the other hand, look pretty lame, and i've even heard them get criticised for being too easy.

Keep in mind that Shattered Soldier was an early PS2 game and it uses the CD-ROM format instead of the DVD-ROM format. Some PS2's wont be able to play them which unfortunately includes mine. I would have bought the game in 3 seconds if I hadn't looked up the format. PAL version is DVD-ROM though, but unfortunately the PS2 is region locked.

I should be ok. Surprisingly, I have an old fat PS2 that still reads CDs just fine. Video of the game looks great. Going to have to pick this up.

Shattered Soldier is excellent, not as much variety to the gameplay as Hard Corps though. Only two characters who play mostly the same, and no branching paths. Still, it's very well designed and is clearly designed with the intention of players replaying the stages to improve their rank. Great soundtrack too, no scratch that, BADASS soundtrack. Seriously, it's adrenaline pumping stuff. Awesome bosses too. They are a real highlight of the game, as they should be. It's more traditional than Hard Corps, but has everything one would want from a good Contra game. It's sort of a back to its roots Contra game I think, which isn't a bad thing
