Personally, I'll buy many Genesis games. Many. I do discriminate though, as a general rule quality over quantity.
I might sell some of my crap games to "trim the fat" so to speak.
When game collecting, do you go for quality or quantity?

Quality. That's not to say I don't have crap. Whenever I come across a game online that looks good or has a lot of praise (this site and mobygames scores/reviews are what I usually go by) I add it to my list of games to get. But if I'm at play n trade and they've got something that sounds good/interesting and it's cheap I'll buy it. That's how I end up with crap games. It probably won't be happening anymore, since every play n trade near me has gone out of business (was meaning to make a topic about that).

Good thing the one I work at is still in business.
We're doing pretty decent, but could be doing better.

Re: When game collecting, do you go for quality or quantity?
I'd like to say Quality, and in my opinion that wouldn't be wrong, but I find myself buying more than one copy of particular games (ie Special Editions, different covers) and games that have acclaim that I know I won't end up playing/finishing. Although I don't really buy games at such a rate to call it quantity.
So, perhaps I go for... qual-ntity?

Re: When game collecting, do you go for quality or quantity?
I would say quality, but the quantity has definitely grown.
I buy games for lots of reasons. Usually it's because I know they are good. Sometimes though, it's because they are cheap and I know they are ok, or they have some unusual them or a unique control mechanic, or I just think they would be worth a laugh. I've never tried to buy everything in a system, but I definitely buy things I know aren't going to be the ideal gaming experience, but they hold some other intangible quality about them that I find amusing.

Quantity. I like the thought of owning complete genre sets for certain consoles, or in some cases complete sets, which is what I've been working on for my SNES. For one thing I absolutely love the thrill of discovering a game I've never played that turns out to be awesome. Cybernator was a pleasant surprise that I'd never played before I picked it up. Awesome game, I'm shocked it didn't do better.
I have picked up a lot of crap in the process, but even these aren't so bad because I can have fun in a group ripping on it. I also tend to focus on specific genres, like fighting, horror, FPS, or RPGs. Good times.

Quality. I have "fewer" games compared to the rest of the Racketboy community but 90 percent are games that most people liked or got good reviews. The rest of them, however, are games that I like and most people when they come over their house ask me why I have it

I think Cybernator didn't do too well because it came out in the period where (imho) games were starting to become somewhat easier and you could also save.
Cybernator is brutally harder at each level with only 3 continues (which really is just like one when you're stuck cos they get used too much).
I'm currently trying to finish it and I don't remember being so frustrated at a game since Alex Kidd in Wonderland.

Quality for me. I have no qualms selling off games I play and simply dislike.
The only time I ever go for "quantity" in any way is when I'm trying to complete a given series. I figure if I've got Super Game 1, 2, and 4, might as well get 3 even if it's not the best.

I pretty much go for quality. I only collect games that I will play.
