What Game Was The Most Pleasant Surprise For You?
Two games that I played through within the past year come to my mind and both were pleasant surprises for me: Wizardry 8 and Terranigma.
I went into both expecting little to nothing, but would soon beat them and walk away with two new favorites. I remember taking a week off during Christmas having a whole list of games to play during that break, but I couldn't stop playing Wiz8 after starting it up and getting hooked on it.

I usually look into games pretty decently before I buy them, but sometimes I take the leap. The Dig was one of those leaps. I was expecting a decent SCUMM game but what I got was something far better. The style, the characters, the story, all beautiful. Now if it didnt have that turtle puzzle it might have taken Fate of Atlantis's spot as my favorite SCUMM game...

Your opinion in nice but mine stands as it was before. If I didn't like the Genesis or Sega, why would rave about how great a Genesis game is and own 5 Genesis' (1 ver1, 3 ver2, & 1 ver3)? Why would I have 48 carts?Mozgus wrote:Nah, it's a matter of what's better, lol.racketboy wrote:I was gonna say that too, but it's all a matter of what games you like....Mozgus wrote: Blasphemy.
I never started a pissing contest as I love both SNES and Genesis however, Racket summed it up quite succinctly... You said it like it's still 1992.
Don't get worked up about it -- he's just half-joking and/or it's just the Sega fanboy coming out.D.D.D. wrote:Your opinion in nice but mine stands as it was before. Personally, I liked the Genesis better because I enjoyed Sonic much more than Mario and they had better sports games (back when I was a sports fan). Other games like Gunstar Heroes ended up being a big bonus
If you like Square RPGs and Mario, SNES was definately a better place....

Speaking of Sonic and Mario
I might even like 2D Sonic games more, but I think it is not unfair to say that 2D Mario are better games. Although they are different enough to not allow direct comparison.
I was actually surprised by Mario games (which I never played back in the day).
Mostly because of the depth. Super Mario World is just huge, and you can do so much. It's a very good game and I'm not surprised it consistently finishes above Sonic games in "top" lists.
Even though I think I personally like the fast paced Sonic stuff over the more... Strategic (?) Mario platforming goodness.

I was obviously being silly. SNES was amazing, even though I never owned one.D.D.D. wrote:Nah Racket~ Not worked up... Just confused. If I was irked, my tirade would have been essay length.![]()
I have about an equal affinity for the SNES and Genesis but I never got the whole fan boy-isms even back then.

Re: Speaking of Sonic and Mario
The 2D Sonics are great especially 3 (I'm torn between 2 and 3 but lean towards 3) but 1 didn't hold up well over time.Ivo wrote:I might even like 2D Sonic games more, but I think it is not unfair to say that 2D Mario are better games. SMW holds up well but yeah, they are definitely different play styles.
I like Sonic's music way better but play-wise, I have more fun with SMW. That said, I haven't played Sonic in a while. Time to whip it out~
