Escort missions always suck. There is no exception. But developers keep putting them in games.

Well, it's a little different from what you're thinking, Hobie-wan, though it still sucks. In Saints Row 2, Escort missions involve you running an escort service. You drive a car around while a celebrity, politician, or businessperson makes it with a hooker in the backseat. And you attempt to avoid news vans, which are trying to capture footage.

The problems I have with it are over the way the missions are designed: no matter what I'm driving, the News vans can always keep up and are just as manueverable as my vehicle, and they have a bad habit of ramming me into walls and pinning me, basically forcing me to sit there for the minute or so it takes for them to get their footage, making me fail the mission. It wouldn't be so bad if it had only happened once or twice, but this happens nearly every time I play the game.

If nothing else, my aggravation has lead me to perform drive-bys every time I see a news van.

  I wasn't fond of some of those missions either but I enjoyed SR2 very much. I hope GTA returns to its true roots those crime simulators needn't take themselves so seriously.

Finished Alan Wake a couple of days ago. Not the greatest ending but considering MS has (had?) DLC plans for the game it was to be expected. I liked the game but like Remedy's previous endeavours there's not much variety throughout the game. It could also have been scarier, but the lack of gore and graphic violence is always a welcome change.

I generally don't like GTA-style games much, but thoroughly enjoyed Saints Row 2 in co-op. I probably wouldn't have liked the Singleplayer very much, but found it to be an awesome experience in co-op.

I absolutely relate to your disdain of the escort missions. Those vans were so cheap.
In co-op, the second player pleasures the escort - which I found rather amusing because those women weren't exactly a sight for sore eyes. :P

Anyhow, the last game I finished was Shenmue. Great game, but I felt it drags on a little a little after Ryo gets a job.
Not the most exciting job in the world. =-/

Haha ok. Though they're still escort missions in that you have to protect some dumbass from the bad guys. They're just escort² missions in this case.
