I'm afraid there aren't any officially-released SHMUPs for the NGPC, at least that I know of. There are a few good homebrew SHMUPs, such as Juno First and Another Day In Hell. ADiH has some impressive graphics for an NGPC game. On a side note, it's not a shooter, but Bomberman was ported as a homebrew game, and has an FMV intro. Pretty cool, I should say.

He did say "Schmups" maybe thats some kind of genre that involves schmucks and up. Or another word where people spell it different because it seems cool to.

Well the only non homebrew shoot-em-up on the NGPC is Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams. That would automatically make it the best :) Haven't got it in my NGP collection as it is quite rare and commands a respectable price on Ebay.

Cotton is a port as well, so only worth it to those that collect or need it on a portable system (god knows why...). Otherwise I think the PlayStation port is the closest to the Arcade (with the added digital quality soundtrack).

What's with homebrew on Neo-Geo Pocket, by the way? Were they ever released to cart or are they just "what the hell?" endeavors. Seems pointless if there's not a way to get it on the actual portable.

Oh, I completely forgot! Yes, Cotton is the only NGPC shoot em' up; one in the subgenre called cute em' ups, due to the subject matter. It is a very fun game, but obviously not as much fun as the console versions. [Especially its sequel on the Saturn!]

I still really wanna get Cotton, but it's pretty damn expensive last time I checked. It's eternally going to be on my want list, though.

I haven't been able to find the homebrew games alone, but if you download the rom fullset/goodset from any torrent site for the NGPC, and you should find plenty of homebrew in them, along with the aforementioned ones. One more recommendation for homebrew that I should make is a game called Shufflepuck Cafe; it's just an air hockey game, but the simple, addictive gameplay and tight joystick controls make it the best one I have come across.
