Video games with bonus retro games.

Post by pepharytheworm »

I love playing older games on newer systems, so I love all the collection/compilation games, but there are also some normal releases that have bonus games in them. After playing the arcade version of Ninja Gaiden in Ninja Gaiden Black, I was curious how many other video games have bonus games in them, either on a second disc like the special addition version of MK Deception or like Ninja Gaiden Black, on the same disc. I want to start a list of these games for reference and would like you guys to help. I love making list, it makes it easier to find games I am looking for. So help me come up with all the ones you guys know and if there is a special way to get to play the bonus game or if its on a bonus disc let me know. Doesn't Contra 4 on DS give you the original NES game after you finish it?

Yup. Forgot about that one. I only needed to pick up PD2 for Saturn.

Xevious 3D/G+ for PS1 has Xevious, Super Xevious, and Xevious Arrangement as bonus games.

Original Metroid in Metroid Prime once you link with Metroid Fusion.

Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure has the original Atari 2600 Pitfall in it.

The remake of The Secret of Monkey Island let's you toggle between the revamped graphics and the old skool graphics with the push of a button.

In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, CJ's house has a videogame console with some various games on it.

Doom 3 on xbox had the original doom, Escape from Castle Wolfenstein had the original wolf3d. The GC Animal Crossing had a handful of NES games, but I don't remember which. I want to say that one of the Prince of Persia games had the original, but I'm just not certain.

Very interesting thread, maybe Racketboy can do an article about this eventually.
There is a Castlevania collection game on the PSP that unlocks Rondo (I think) I don't know if that kind of thing counts.

Also, there are also games that have bonus games that aren't just older games; e.g. the WarioWare games typically unlock something more "arcadey" and less "micro-gamey" when you complete some determined goal. This is typically / always some Pyoro game in the case of WarioWare
